dwr rows

I am still working on the double wedding ring quilt. I have all the rows completed, and now, it's time to get brave and sew the rows together..... hmmm......maybe next week.

I have loved everything about making this quilt. I am truly glad I took the plunge and decided to make it. And, I do want to see it finished. I started the quilt because Jo of Jo's country junction published her version of it in magazine, and started a quilt along. That was the motivation I needed.
I love the fabrics and that all of it came from my stash. I love that the ratio of boring sewing to interesting sewing is good. I love that it was easier to make than it looked. I hope I am not counting my chickens before they hatch, but, I am excited about this quilt. I used a different template than Jo, which was bigger, and, that might be why it has been easier than I thought.

classic double wedding ring

One block at a time, I am building rows for my double wedding ring quilt. It is tricky getting the curves facing the right direction.

The outside rows require a finished curved edge. It is easiest if there are 3 melons on the center piece. But, the row goes together in an every other pattern. This is the last block for the the right bottom outside corner. Now, I have to start putting rows together. I started this with Jo of Jo's country junction quilt along. I was pleasantly surprised how much easier it is to make than it looks. There is a lot of sewing of small pieces, millions, I am sure.

string along

Moda is having a string along December 28, 2018, and I thought I would participate providing I can keep up  with good fortune mystery.
Here is the intro post
Here is where I saw it
I really enjoy string piecing on my treadle. It is in my living room, and I can watch tv with or without my husband. It doesn't make too much noise to hear the tv.

And I have no shortage of strings.

I have this string spider web that I work on from time to time. I am using a 1 1/2 inch moda jelly roll, but it gets monotonous very quickly. I am more of a scrappy girl.

And this spider web that has been around for awhile. I haven't finished assembling it.

I have even used strings as sashings.

I'm not sure which I will work on during the string along. I am sure I will find more string ufos if I poke around.

autumn jubilee

Carole from from My Carolina home offered a quilt along mystery called autumn jubilee. I did her square dance mystery earlier and really liked it. And I like her fabric choices, so I decided to start one of my own. I am late. Right now it is free and very cute. It's a classic addition for this time of year.
block a is here

I started adding a pin to the top of the last seam I sewed, so I could alternate which direction I was sewing.

And I finished 10 this far, but I can see, I didn't cut them all the same. I cut them while with my sewing group, and that can be filled with happy interruptions. I will need to check and adjust, because I am not ripping them apart LOL. This may be a pumpkiny I get this year.

one monthly goal finish

This was my goals for October. It is the 31st and BOO and it is time to report just how well I did.

For my one monthly goal, I want to make my Granddaughter's unicorn quilt, and finish piecing orca bay mystery quilt, and continue working on the double wedding ring.

I have all the pieces cut and sewn to add around the unicorn quilt for my Granddaughter. I just have to do the math and put an inner border first.

I have a big stack of double wedding ring melons finished. And it is time to add them to the rows and assemble. I am still very much in love with how this coming together.

I am close to assembling the orca bay mystery quilt. I am piecing the border which includes a gazillion HSTs.

So I would say I accomplished my October goals for one monthly goal. It's time to think about November. wow

double wedding ring arcs

All the arcs are officially done for the double wedding ring. I am slowly adding them to the second side of the melons.

We finished our Grandma week of fall break with a campfire and marshmallows. I have such great memories of my children and campfires. It is fun to watch how learning takes place while roasting marshmallows. It seems a simple thing, but it is filled with decisions and choices, and experiencing consequences. And watching a sunset is always good.

wedding ring double fun

The weather has been so nice. I love an Indiana sky in the fall. It is a perfect shade of blue with just enough fluffy clouds to make it interesting. The temperature is cool enough that there is no doubt winter is coming, but warm enough to still feel hopeful there is a bit more time to be outdoors.
We grew elephant ears this year for the first time, And a bunch of weeds, and mosquitoes. We are clever that way.

I have all the A pieces of arcs made for my double wedding ring quilt- all of them. I can't believe it, there were soooo many wedges. I am not done with with the whole arc yet, I need to add the B piece and a square to each end.

We are still playing with our lala loopsies and re watching Mulan.

dwr quilt along

I have sewn all the a pieces into twosies except for this lonely little guy. Let's hope it was an over calculation error and not a short. Time will tell. I have a whole row together and I am slowly putting the arcs on melons together.

At this point, I am enjoying the variety of sewing pieces together. I can sew different stages of arcs, or melons, or rings, or rows. I find I like doing a little of each at each time at the sewing machine. It keeps it interesting. And I am so flabbergasted about how well it is going, that I want to keep going. Jo Kramer of Jo's Country junction quilt along has been great for me.

For my one monthly goal, I want to make my Granddaughter's unicorn quilt, and finish piecing orca bay mystery quilt, and continue working on the double wedding ring. And I want to thank fat quarter shop for my gift certificate prize. I just love elm street quilts one monthly link up. It has helped complete many of my wishlist goals.
I spent several days combing through the sight dreaming about what I would buy. I decided on a grunge jelly roll and a thread I use all the time on my longarm.

wedding ring row

miles and miles of twosies for the double wedding ring quilt. This a really great quilt along with Jo Kramer of Jo's Country junction.  I am so glad I used her color ideas.

And this is where I am. I can see the bottom

From last week - no bottom

It was time to try rows - hooray - it looks like a row - short but it looks like a row. magical My quilt will be 7 x7. It seems odd to say I can assemble the rows when all the arcs aren't all sewn together.

more double wedding ring

My cataract surgery went well... so far, I wasn't sure I would feel like blogging, but something simple will do.
I am still working on sewing pieces together for the double wedding ring quilt.  I try to work on it every morning.

Last week our challenge was to add the 3rd mellon to the center.

I am very thrilled with my progress. It looks like it is supposed to look. I am guessing this week is all about rows.

double wedding ring count

Double wedding ring quilts have been showing up on pinterest and they are certainly different. Check out this link to "modern" wedding ring quilts

Last week I went as far as I could with my quilt without cutting more center pieces and melons, and decided to do a count. I am doing this double wedding ring quilt along with Jo of Jo's Country junction.
I have 7 at this stage. I am missing 2 center melon pieces that I know I cut. 273 sewn pieces

I have 9 at this stage -342 sewn pieces

I have 16 at this stage - 340 sewn pieces

I have 3 at this stage -30 sewn pieces

I have 10 at this stage of a and b pieces - 80 sewn pieces

I have 9 at this stage of just a pieces -54 sewn pieces

I have 16 sets of 4 a pieces - 64 sewn pieces

1 million a's and squares left to sew

1 million b's left to sew

total count of pieces sewn together -1,183 pieces. But, I am l really enjoying this.
