scrap challenge for September

The color of the month is light blue and green for the rainbow scrap challenge. I have included these colors in my blue and green months. So I am caught up in my regularly scheduled projects.

I found 2 older ufos that will I will work on this month with the new colors of the month.

Baby x and o was started in 2015, when I was the workshop chairman for my guild. It was a quick baby size quilt to piece. I made bonus triangles from the cut offs of the snowball corners. It was my plan to make a border with these. I can work on sewing these together, and maybe finish the quilt this month.

Swingin checkerboard is a quilted twins free pattern that I started in 2019. I have all the 16 patch blocks made. I found scraps in the box, but, I didn't find the mint green constant for the rail fence blocks. That is probably why it was sidelined for so long. I spent some time hunting through my collections of fabric and scraps for the likely candidate. nope. I attended a quilt show in pendleton Indiana and didn't find anything in mint green. I stopped by a quilt store in Noblesville. They had a small range of mint green, but it was too expensive for an almost. On the way home, I thought of hobby lobby. And, I think I found "the one" yay!  Otherwise, I was going to put it away for another day.

it is a little brighter in person

eliza

I have found a large piece of red gingham in my stash that I like for the sashings for Aunt Eliza'a star. I think I want to do a nine patch in the center of the sashing. This is my may one monthly goal., and I need to get going on it if I want to get it done.

I have ALL the 16 patch blocks made for the quilted twins free pattern called swingin checkerboard. I am not sure if I will look to the next step or put it away for a bit. This has certainly been the year of 16 patches.

works in progress

What I am working on this week. I am trying to make 2 easy breezy blocks every day. I still have 70 + to go.

And if I have enough extra 1 1/2 inch squares to make a waffle stamps block, I make it in any color. Otherwise, I use the color of the month from rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. This month is red and I finished the red here.

I made a batch of  quilted twins free pattern called swingin checkerboard. I have another 30 - 40 to go.

I worked on rsc blocks in red for progress through the month of red and May. I want to make crumb stars this week.

checkerboard

I woke up one morning and my mojo was gone. I am sure it will come back, I just need to coast a little and, see what happens. Meanwhile, I am slowly working on a few clean up projects. I have a few more blocks for quilted twins free pattern called swingin checkerboard.

And, I have the quilting done on baby snoopy. This was a project from a retreat in January, I think.

progress

I am rounding up all the light carolina chain blocks and finishing the cutting, and, sewing the ones I need for the quilt. I have many of the dark ones made as well, but, I am trying to get the light ones to the finish. I found some more tucked away. I thought they were dark background. I've cut some more dark squares to finish what I need.

I have made a few blocks for quilted twins free pattern called swingin checkerboard. I work on these a little at a time.

Winter has been hard on our trees. We have a bit of clean up ahead.

there is always Spring to  look forward

to do: make progress

Daffodils are blooming and I have seen blue skies. I am really looking forward to Spring this year. I hope to out more and working on building back relationships. Although, I have almost forgotten how to be social.
I've had a chance to make more blocks for quilted twins free pattern called swingin checkerboard. It is a project that I am just adding to as time permits.

more blocks

I am trying to take stock on the leader/ ender challenge quilt easy breezy. I am not sure why I haven't made much progress, or what I need to do to change that.

I need to cut more pieces for easy breezy. I need the neutral pieces. I have plenty of squares.

new label maker

I have a strange new addiction. My old label maker was acting funny, and, I couldn't read the labels on the project boxes during a search.  I happened to find this label maker at goodwill, and, had no idea if it would work or not. I took the chance and ordered the cartridges.  I really, really like it, and, all I want to do is re sort all my project boxes and add the new labels.

First, I was happy. Then, I was depressed - I have way to many. Then, I was content to just keep after it.  Now, I am happy to see all my projects again. This time, I am grouping the boxes by alphabet.... more or less. I apparently like to start quilts that start with 's'. There are more 's' words than any other. Instead of quilting, you may find me looking at my nicely labeled ufo boxes. I still have more to go.

In the evening, I have been therapeutically sewing the 16 patches for quilted twins free pattern called swingin checkerboard.

24 finished

swingin checkerboard quilt

I have been collecting pink and green scraps for a quilted twins free pattern called swingin checkerboard. This is one of those patterns that you collect, sew forever in between other projects, sew sew sew, and love the whole process until it is finally a quilt. I am in no hurry. One thing I have noticed with Becky's patterns, is that they are relatively easy to have a successful result, and, look much more complicated than they were to make.

strips

I have a box with 2,112 -2 inch squares sewn into sets of 4. I started in 2019 gathering scraps.

Preparing the  4 block units took less time than this year's quiltville mystery matchy matchy units.

I have 3 blocks together

swingin checkerboard

I have a few minutes in the evening to sew on my treadle - I really didn't want to start a new project, but, I wanted to make a quilted twins quilt called swingin checkerboard, this year, and didn't get to it. So, I am giving myself permission to just sew a few strips together while watching conference in the evening.

That is, until, I become consumed with the project, and it takes over what I am doing. I have quilter's ADD, I guess. First, I just cut a few strip sets to see what they would look like, now, I am over half way with the pieces that I will need. This will be a great scrap buster.....

Swingin checkerboard is a free pattern here. Quilted twins  has fabric and many free patterns here
