good fortune finish

I have finished all the quiltville mysteries. It was a challenge started by Jo Kramer of Jo's country junction last year. She finished all the quilts in one of Bonnie Hunter's book. I joined in the challenge by deciding to finish all 18 of my mystery quilts. I pretty much did them in order. So my last quilt is Good Fortune, the 2018 mystery quilt.

I finished this as part of my 2019 finish along, I just didn't get photos until I had help today.

I am really excited  about finishing this challenge. I have started every mystery, but one, and they kept being sent to time out in favor of other projects. I finished 18 quilts and have them out of the ufo closet. Now a big decision coming up in November with the start of another mystery from quiltville. Am I done with the mystery or will I do the new one.
I have a page at the top of the blog with all the mysteries there.

My list for the 3rd quarter:
1.wiggle time finished
2. allietare finished
4. sweet land of liberty
5. unicorn
6. good fortune finished
7. crazy 6
8. countryside cottage
9. sugar mountain finished
10.En provence finished
11. melba applique
12.on ringo lake finished
13. scrappy twirl
14. soul searching

one monthly goal

I can't believe it is September already. And it's time for choosing goals for One monthly goal at elm street quilts. This is the month I am going to finally finish On Ringo Lake mystery quilt.....I hope.
After finishing the top last month, I had a few places I needed to flip the sashings. This pesky little guy was nearly in the center of the quilt. Fortunately, he was a lone wolf taunting me, and not part of a series of flipped pieces.

I plan to stay with the mystery quilts, and finish good fortune mystery quilt as well.

I am behind on swap blocks, and the rainbow scrap challenges as well.

good fortune goal finish

I have finished the top of my good fortune mystery quilt. I liked adding a border that was string pieced. It meant there were no seams to match.

March is coming to an end and I have finished all my projects for my one monthly goal.  I added borders, quilted and bound the Denise Schmidt version of Grand Illusion, a quiltville mystery quilt that I am calling sunshine skies.

I quilted and bound Cactus patch which was a quilt that I made some time ago, and had not finished it. It is also a quiltville quilt from scraps and shirttails book.
This is Bonnie Hunter's quilt on her site.

I made some string pieces for another quiltville quilt called Sand castles. This is a new project for the year, so I can take the whole year. I have the papers ready, and have gathered the taupe fabrics, I can use. This was part of string frenzy book.

I made my 30 blocks for the swap I am participating in, using our version of circa 1880 as the inspiration.
Here are some I made..

And here are some I have received

good fortune - green

We decided for our "fun Saturday outing" we would visit Menards and buy some garden seeds. We have grow lights in our basement, and start a few plants indoors for our garden. From the look of outdoors, we are too early, but, we were in need of thinking of Spring and the green coming in the days ahead. Our February has been especially gloomy, I decided we would do one fun thing a day to try and stay positive.

I thought I would put Good fortune on time out for awhile, but, I found my self assembling the green triangle border. It's little what could it hurt.

My tips for adding this border to good fortune mystery quilt.

1. don't - geesh
2. I had to add 2 more triangles to every border. I needed to measure and not take bonnie's word for the size.
3. I decided I had ironed the triangles wrong. I wanted them ironed so that I could see the intersection.
4. cheat the seam allowance to match the intersection.
5. be happy with a small success rate on not losing points

6. The iron is your friend - mash it flat. mine wanted to curl

7. look at it farther away. jeepers

8. look forward to a string border that is purposely and legally wonky.
9. be glad it's over and done.

good fortune - flakes

We had a, surprise to me, snowfall after church yesterday. It was beautiful. And, I decided I needed to go out and enjoy it. We drove through Highland park. And even though, it looks like black and white pictures, it is not, and there still was it's own kind of beautiful.

Both my husband and I had so many fun times on this sledding hill and the creek use to freeze and we would ice skate. Now, it is too dangerous they say. And no one was sledding.

I have had the center of good fortune done for a week, and just started adding the borders. The completer border is done, and I have started assembling the triangle border.

good fortune - more

I have been assembling rows for my good fortune mystery quilt at Friday group. It is mindless work with a big impact. I need mindless to keep up with conversation and of course, to throw my 2 cents into the fray. I sure enjoy the company.
I am always a little nervous at the assembling stage. What if I don't like it, or I didn't get it right at some point. But, there is also the giddy excitement as a new block is added and it grows.

And it grows...

And it grows...

I am thrilled. From the picture, it looks like I have the 4 patches right. And, I like the colors. I don't think my quilting friends are convinced yet. For them, it might be a bit bright.

I have been working with celtic solstice, too, and the colors are very similar.

I have just finished orca bay, as my 12th mystery quilt. All of them have a special page here. I have 6 left to do, which includes 2 repeats of my own colorway, that, I was just sure I had to do as well. Every new one is my favorite.

good fortune- missing

I am still working on good fortune mystery quilt. I sewed these blocks with a 9 patch project as a companion. It took longer but, made it seem shorter. The only problem is, I am short one whole block. I think I have enough to make another one, but where did that pesky block go?

These are still part of an autumn quilt from My Carolina home.

We are still in a winter wonderland in Indiana, but it is 7 below - very cold

good fortune - magic

I was very worried about this step and making sure the points matched, but, it was magic. 99% of the points matched without any effort on my part. I didn't even pin. I was thrilled. I did have a hard time sticking to it, though, so it took most of the week to finish all of them.

I spent Friday group, making the blocks. I can not say I was as "lucky" with these points, but, it will look good in a quilt.

I realized that this block seemed familiar. I finished Carolina Christmas earlier last year and it's the same block, more or less. I have that quilt on my bed, and I see it every day. It makes me smile. I know it's a Christmas quilt, but I will leave it on my bed until spring.

And, even the same border unit.

progress

I haven't really done anything to show. But, I have been working a little on each project.
I have the rows together for Christmas snowflake. I will be teaching this in March to my guild, and I need to have something to show the end of the month.

I have been cutting strips, sewing them, and cutting them for a scrappy twirl quilt.

And I have all the quarter block units done for good fortune quilt. I can't believe how many quilts are already finished.

good fortune - grandchildren

Since the last linky Monday at quiltville for the mystery quilt, I finished the neutral string piecing,

made the red blocks,
 sewed the 12 triangle sets

and made a dent in the remaining triangle units.

I missed the reveal. In my mind, it didn't seem time for another clue. Imagine my surprise at Friday group when they all asked if I liked the quilt. They aren't even making the quilt and they knew. I think it will be a great quilt. This is the point with all the mysteries that I quit for awhile, but, I think I have another week in me. I made a big push to finish all the mysteries last year, and I have 11 finished. You can find them here.

We had a surprise visit from our Grandchildren Sunday. It made my heart happy. We played games and then when the adults were talking (boring) they snuck into the bedroom and watched Studio c on my Ipad.

stash report January 6, 2019

Ok.... not a good start to a fabric diet, but walmart had their Christmas fat quarters for 24 cents. I didn't count them until I came home. I bought 38. sigh.... The bigger Christmas piece was also 24 cents at the rescue mission. It was the only fabric I have ever seen there.
I knew instantly that I wanted to put 2 different fat quarters into the string piecing for Good fortune mystery quilt.

I am ok with the price per fat quarter, but 38 fat quarters = 9.5 yards. Really? they don't look like that much.

good fortune - a new die

The last day of  2018. Happy New year!
I have all of clue 5 finished for Good fortune mystery quilt. I had just received my 3 1/2 hst accuquilt die as part of my Christmas. I was excited it was the right one. Although, it was nearly the last one on my wish list.

For clue 6, I had these pieces of junk paper leftover from the Christmas snowflake quilt. so those are the size I am using for the string piecing. most of them are 4 inches wide x 9  so I will cut them in half for the 2 inch rectangles and I can trim the others to 2 1/2 inches.

I grabbed this box of scraps to fish around for the neutral strings I will need.

I have just a few sewn on my treadle.
