I worked on adding purple 2 inch squares to my Tokoyo subway quilt.It isn't very exciting in photos.
I needed 8 blocks with purple. Here is where I started this quilt

And just like salsa and chips, it never comes out even. I have quite a few 2 inch squares leftover.
I dyed some wool for friends at hooking guild. I am going to add these to my etsy shop as well.

border time

I am ready for a border on my patriotic boxy stars. This is a free pattern at quiltville

I have a dozen of quilts ready for borders. It is my least favorite part. Last year, I thought I had finished so many, I would be better at just getting in there and adding the borders. bummer, not so much. But I think the big hang up, is that my sewing table has to be clean or everything gets dumped on the floor and scrambles under other places never to be seen again. And I am a spreader so there is always mess to the sides of my machine. I do think I am less intimidated by the borders, just lazy about wanting to clean up first.

And, I am finding piecing projects for convenience and once the piecing is done, I find another piecing project, and then, well, it gets finished and so on.

My hubby is home full time, and we are still trying to adjust to that and finding a schedule. He worked 3 to midnight for 10 years. And we are still following that schedule. I used to sew in the evenings, but now He is here and I think I should be spending that time with him. We will figure it out only to change it again. sigh....

I love this thing - really love it. for cutting the little thread between chain piecing pieces. I should carry it around my neck everywhere I go, I love it so much. But, it does have to be moved which is wasted movement. Definitely worth it though until....

I found these. Oh yipee! problem solved.

It was difficult to pick which color I would put on my home machine, but aqua won.

But, oh my goodness, it works like a dream. And it is never in the way. These are the best thing.

Now, down the road, the blade is not replaceable. But I have only changed my gizmo blade twice in 3 years. I bought the 3 pack, so my featherweight would have one too. That leaves one in case they get dull too soon.

rug twining

My Friday quilt friends asked me to teach them to twine a rug. I enjoy the process and love the rugs I have made. They are the best scatter rugs I have ever had. They lay completely flat, and don't schooch. And they are machine washable. I made the frame for Sue and she wanted to try to use up odd strips of scraps. We managed to get the warp put on using an old sheet, and she started the actual twining.

sunday stash report February 4 , 2018

I bought some fat quarter bundles at Joann during buy one get one free. These will come in handy for backgrounds.

And these are so cute! little 2 1/2 inch squares. there is 100 in each set. Each set is 7.99 regular price but with a 50% coupon it is 4.00. That is a lot of fun for 4.00. I haven't opened them, I may never want to open them) but they look like a batik mixture of fabrics.

purple and Christmas

The blue bin is still full but much more organized after making January blue blocks. Hooray

I am excited to use purple for the month of February and the rainbow scrap challenge. Purple is one of my favorite colors.

I spent my Friday quilt group cutting and piecing the purple block for soul searching. This is a great stash busting quilt. These blocks are huge about 22 inches. I have also cut the 2 inch squares for the tokoyo subway quilt. There are 8 blocks that will need purple.

My work on the Christmas block of the month has been slow. Jo of Jo's country junction has a challenge for finishing old block of the months. I did cut a bunch of 1/2 square triangles.

I was worried about "inventing " the blocks since I have lost the patterns, and then I realized I had used the same sizes in last month's squared away block, so I did finish one block. I only have 4 more to go before I can start to plan a layout.

Time will tell ... or I may just want to get it finished quickly with rows and sashing.

Friday finish

The sun was actually shining, so I took a couple pictures of the butterfly quilt I finished for my Granddaughter. It was a buggy barn stack and whack pattern, that I had as a workshop a few years ago. I didn't finish it because I was certain I had not done a very good job. But, when I added borders and quilted it, it was pretty square, and I had worried for no good reason. Now, I think it is great. I need to remember that every quilt is so much better after it is finished - it's magic!

I am trying to make more interesting labels for each of the Grandchildren quilts this year. I found a stationary printable with butterflies and printed it on ink jet fabric. I am so inspired by Kate's labels on her blog life in pieces that I wanted to try myself. Here she describes her method
