top 5

Meadow mist designs is having a linky party of our top 5 blog posts for 2018

I have 19 finishes for 2018. That is definitely my top 5 favorite thing.

The blog post with the most views was my participation in a block of the month finishing challenge with a Christmas block of the month.

I had the most comments
from a stash report with  picture of my son and his son. They were a favorite of mine and very cute.

I received a thank you email for a a blog post of the quilt tutorial series of Christmas snowflake. quilt. The email is definitely a favorite.

My favorite quilt is always the one I have just finished. But, at this time, it would be the fishy quilt because I feel a little like a designer.

And as a whole the quiltville mystery quilt challenge was a favorite because I finished several mystery quilts that would have gone undone, I fear, if I hadn't had a goal. there is a tab at the top with my 2018 finishes.

stash report May 5, 2018

I found this quilt kit at an estate sale. I loved the fabrics, and it was a great deal in my opinion. I couldn't be sure, until I came home and opened the bundle, but there were 16 yards, and it included the backing and binding. I figured I could use the fabric in something else if I didn't want to make the quilt.

I am still trying to invent the finishing for my block of the month Christmas quilt challenge hosted by Jo of Jo's Country Junction( I don't have the pattern).
I have sewn all the blocks together to form the center. The next part is to cut borders for the edges.

Stash report

Fabric Used this Week 6 yards
Fabric Used year to Date: 217 1/4 yards

Fabric Added this Week: 16 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 126 3/4 yards

Net Fabric for 2018: 90 1/2 yards used more than purchased.

I sewed at least 15 min 7 days this week. started square dance mystery quilt

A little block of the month

I think this is the last block for my Christmas block of the month. Now, I need to decide on the setting and begin that process - not my favorite part.

more  here and here
I am doing this for
Jo's country junction Block of the month challenge

Today is also Jo's String challenge which for me is about completing the quiltville mystery quilts and I am focused on Carolina Crossroads quilt for the month of April. I have prepared the back and the binding. Next is putting the quilt on the longarm and quilting it. I take that in steps, usually. I attach it, fill bobbins and baste it, and then prepare the panto or decide on the pattern for free motion. It could take up to 3 days depending on my schedule.

green in the rainbow

It's March already and time for green in the rainbow scrap challenge at soscrappy.
I do have a bunch of 2 1/2 inch strips I will use for my soul searching quilt.

I have been gone for a week and I only took snow days quilt with me. So the best I could do for Jos Country junction challenge and block of the month, was to cut out and web another block for my Christmas sampler BOM. But progress is progress.

While in Buffalo, we tried to experience local flavors. Most diners and cafes served at a liquor bar as well. This was breakfast at Sopias's. with homemade bread french toast. And yes, they were ordering cocktails at breakfast.

We just had to see Niagra Falls and it is just as spectacular in the winter.

We ate a buffalo treat -chocolate sponge candy too. yum.

and Beef on weck - not a fan

purple and Christmas

The blue bin is still full but much more organized after making January blue blocks. Hooray

I am excited to use purple for the month of February and the rainbow scrap challenge. Purple is one of my favorite colors.

I spent my Friday quilt group cutting and piecing the purple block for soul searching. This is a great stash busting quilt. These blocks are huge about 22 inches. I have also cut the 2 inch squares for the tokoyo subway quilt. There are 8 blocks that will need purple.

My work on the Christmas block of the month has been slow. Jo of Jo's country junction has a challenge for finishing old block of the months. I did cut a bunch of 1/2 square triangles.

I was worried about "inventing " the blocks since I have lost the patterns, and then I realized I had used the same sizes in last month's squared away block, so I did finish one block. I only have 4 more to go before I can start to plan a layout.

oh, maybe I could do this layout from my inspiration board...

or this...

Time will tell ... or I may just want to get it finished quickly with rows and sashing.

soap and quilts

With Hubby's job ending soon, we are trying to downsize and make decisions about all the fringe interests. Last month, we concentrated on fiber, we sorted, played, and packed up what we still wanted in our spinning life. We even sold a spinning wheel. yay!  If our new life doesn't have room for spinning then it can all go, but hubby and I really like to spin so we went with the idea that we would still be able.
This month is all about soap. I know I don't want to ever be without my homemade soap, but I no longer want to make for others or spend time dreaming up the perfect soap. Our plan was to use up all the ingredients and pack a few containers with soap that will keep for awhile. Hubby loves my soap too and was very enthusiastic about making soap with me.

Since the soap is just for us, I was just going to keep it simple, no color, no fragrance, regular bars. But my head started with the silly ideas ( why does it do that?). And I needed to think of something for my visiting teaching ladies. So Snowflakes with peppermint were born. Oh no, if the fun has started then what.

As far as my quilting goes, I have only made a little progress on my turtle quilt. I have made rows, and I like them. Next I need to do the turtle appliques.

My old mystery quilt challenge Carolina Crossroads decision was made about the border fabric, and I did cut it. But that's it.

my old Christmas Block of the month has more pieces cut and only a few pieced together.
