pink scraps round 2

I enjoy making these traffic jam blocks. Maybe, because, I am seeing a reduction in my 2 1/2 inch square drawer, or because I am only making 2 each month. I am hoping by the end of the year I will have a small donation quilt.

I made pink zigzag ripple blocks  using 1 1/2 inch strips by the wof. I am trying to keep the fabric the same in each block. I wonder what a mixed scrap block would do in a quilt.

I brought my Grandmother's pink rose bush to my home over 50 years ago when she passed away. I was 12 at the time, I have moved it a few times, but it still makes me happy. I took this picture on mother's day after a rain.

strip weave top finish

The top for my strip weave quilt is ready for quilting. I have added it to the cue for the long arm. This was part of my rainbow scrap challenge  projects for last year. I made the blocks from scraps using the color of the month and 2 1/2 inch strips. I didn't have a pattern just a picture on my bulletin board. I had to redo some of them as I had edge strips going the wrong way.

progress

I have a cabinet in my sewing room that I hang all my in progress blocks. Most of the time, I don't even notice them. But, it caught my eye and made me smile. Quilts that I am finishing are usually in their own bag that I can take with me if I travel to social sewing. I keep them near the machine so that I can grab a bit of time with them at home. I enjoy participating in the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy every year.  But those projects are patience projects. I make a few every month for the whole year. I really don't flip them into a finish quilt in my mind, or until the end of the year. Sometimes, I don't think I am getting much done. It was good to see the wall of blocks and remember I am still working forward.

sugar grove

One of my rainbow scrap challenges is to cut all the hsts I will need for the Bonnie Hunter quilt called sugar grove. Each month I make 180 hsts in the color of the month. I have enough variety to make a few whole blocks as I go along. I purchased the pattern last year to use the leftover hsts I have been saving. It hasn't really worked that way, so far. I liked the idea in the quilt of using matching fabric diagonally. I didn't have enough that match. So, I have had to cut and sew most of them from scraps to make the sets I need. It hasn't been tedious doing a set amount every month. I am sure I would not be making it if I just tried to do it all at once.  I want 72 blocks. I have 12.

They are not perfect, even though I am trimming. But I think it will be fine in the whole quilt. It is such a fun way to use up scraps. And each block is a fun surprise when finished.

I did take a minute to dye some dark blue for my Christmas in new England rug. I didn't want to continue hooking until I had more variety.

starting pink scraps

I had a chance to start with my pink scraps for the rainbow scrap challenge. I made windmills.

and 2 rows of Jo's checkers. I have enough variety of colors now I may be able to sew a few rows together.

I have a used the yellow monkey wrench blocks from last month as leaders and enders.
