jelly roll finish

I have a finish for my January one monthly goal at elm street quilts. This is an older ufo ( 2013) made from a jelly roll and free pattern by cindy carter.

76 x 76

12 yards of fabric

I really liked the border with the rest of the quilt. I quilted simple circle loops in a light gray thread. I machine sewed the binding. I needed to open a new roll of hobbs 80/20 batting. I noticed it was not the same as other bolts. I wonder if there was a change in the manufacture. It seemed thinner and more prone to making a hole.

quilty gifts

I had some great Christmas gifts from my hubby. Probably a big favorite is my new mister for spray starch. He also bought a gallon of best press. I really like how it works. At our last sew in, the hostess made home made spray starch with vodka. It worked great too, but, I wouldn't know my way around a liquor store. I plan on starching everything. haha

best press and mister

I asked for these go dies. I own the studio and usually stick to studio dies, but these were a good deal. And I want to try both of these blocks and patterns. We will see if I am sorry I didn't hold out for the studio dies.

I hope you received some quilty presents, too. It makes the new year a little more fun.

to do: set a goal for scrap management

I have tried to set some goals for scrap management. Scraps are everywhere, and, are taking over my quilting life. I enjoy cutting scraps, but, when it comes to putting them away, I realize I have no more room for them. I need to use out of what is already cut and ready to go, so there will be room for more.

1.That is why a few boxes just need to go to the attic, and wait for a better time.

2. when this basket is full I have to deal with it. It is about 14 inches across and 7 inches deep, and, it holds a lot of scraps. Any more than that, I would likely just procrastinate.

it is already starting to collect scraps...like a magnet

3. make a list of all the quilts I want to cut out and what to cut.

shirts ohio star -5 1/2 inch strips

    snails trail -

    pineapple- 3 inch strips

    and any new ones.

My lastest cutting

These weighed just a little over 3 pounds. If there are 3 yards in a pound, then, there are 9 yards of fabric. No wonder I can't use them fast enough. That is enough yardage to make a good size lap quilt. And they were just bits and chunks. At today's prices that would be nearly $100.00

grassy creek mystery

I have been completely engrossed in organizing my quilting goals for this year, that, I completely forgot about quiltville's mystery grassy creek. I didn't even remember to go get the clues during the holidays. If I hadn't stumbled upon the bag of fabric, I might have forgotten completely. So, I quickly, cut the parts for clue 3. I use the word quickly sarcastically. I really dislike the matchy matchy in sets parts.

I used an accuquilt die that I have had for awhile, but, never opened. That seemed fortuitous. And, it had 4 pieces to cut at a time, which helped making matching sets.

I was going to wait to sew the parts together. But, I started sewing them at the treadle. sewing the red and neutral was easy enough. They are one or two threads over and under the goal for size. I don't think I will trim them.

I tried one set of complete triangle to check for size. I don't really understand how to check. They are the right size tall, and, I have 1/4 inch seams all around, so, I think they will work. I won't know until I do clue 4.

stash report January 3, 2021 and new project

I miss watching my fabric totals for the year and working on a hand stitching project. I have decided to start that post again in 2021.

I found some great before Christmas sales at Joann fabrics. I liked this Christmas fat quarter bundle and matching jelly rolls at 60% off sale price. I have a plan for an improv Christmas tree quilt. We will see if I remember it long enough to actually start it, before the fabric is absorbed into the stash.

Stash report  January 3, 2021

Fabric Used this week:  yards - 3 yards pillowcases

Fabric Used year to Date: 3 yards

Fabric Added this week: 5 3/4 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 5 3/4 yards

net fabric: 2 3/4 yards bought more than used

It looks like I am starting the year behind, but, happy

I sewed at least 15 minutes per day - I have added a bit of time to my evening routine. I try to sew in the mornings before the day gets started.

I have quilty hand stitching projects, but, I want to include a new rug I am planning on making in 2021 as my hand stitching project..

I would like to include a scrap giveaway once a month by the end of the month.

1st rsc 2021 and a finish

Happy New Year!

I hesitate to say it, since I said it last year, and look what happened.

Pink is the first color of the year for the rainbow scrap challenge. I hope to follow a plan for working on this challenge this year.

1. grab color wire basket and sort

I keep my fabric chunks in wire baskets by color. Some baskets are in tidy shape, others, not so much. Pink is very tidy and full.

2. decide ufo by color -prioritize as #1

pink -2 love pillowcases, 2 baby flannel quilts, zuckerwaite ( any progress is progress)

3. make ongoing rsc blocks

tiny houses

postage stamp psp20

ice cream

waffle stamp blocks

4. cut/use 2 1/2 in strips in color

wonky stars with crumb centers ?     purple churndash ?     nearly lemoyne hunter ?     coins ?

    rectangles ?

5. Make or finish a table topper for the challenge with Joy of Joyful quilting

6. participate with the full stop quilt that Angela is doing

My first ufo in pink are two pillowcases I bought in Utah one year while visiting my daughter.

I have a project box collecting all the crafty and not quilty projects that never seem to get done. This is one of them. It is a small project, compared to a quilt, so, I hope to make more than one ufo project in January

And, hooray, my first finish for 2021. It is a real relief to have this off the ufo/ to do list.
