baby gift

I am in need of a quick baby gift - this Saturday. I have several baby girl quilts at the ready, but I need a boy gift.

I have these precut fleece boy squares, I think that should be quick enough. I don't like wrestling fleece, but I can manage.

I was able to get this far in an evening. Meanwhile, I have been restoring this doll I made in the 90s. She had been hiding in a  rubbermaid box in the garage . I thought she was safe enough. But squirrels are the devil. She needed elastics fixed, and cleaned  really well. I had made several and sold most of them. I kept one for my daughter - brown haired, brown eyed beauty. And this one for me. I was glad to re find her. I used to know the name of the porcelain mold, but I don't now. Oh how I loved them. Does a girl ever outgrow dolls?

Moving ahead

I had a successful canning batch of vegetable soup. The house smelled soooo good. And there was some leftover enough to eat.

As punishment for buying fabric last week, I was forced to sew some more hourglass blocks.

I have managed to cut all the big pieces of fabric for my one monthly goal American Beauty Rose, in to the strips sizes needed for sewing. When I was done, I was a little disturbed by how much fabric was left over, surely a more efficient way to use the fabric could have been used. Then I realized, the center blocks of background are 17 inches square, and that would have been the best size to use in the 20s when fabric was 36 in wide. So Marie Webster was a quilt genius of her time. LOL

I have done something each day so far, to move this quilt along. Some days I do more than other days, but I haven't missed a day yet in February.

As a goal this year, I said no more buying remnants. At least I made it to February. 

It is hard to resist when the remnants are 50 % off the sale price and there is a lot of fabric on sale.

The turquoise fabric on the left was a whole yard on sale 40% off and was 4.79. Then the remnant was 2.40 for the yard. Christmas was 60% off, flannel was 2.69 a yard and then 1/2 off. And this is very useable  for my projects. I am still on the positive side so I'll punish myself by sewing a few more hourglass blocks, hang my head a moment, and then get back to it.

I am knitting socks this evening for slow Sunday stitching and my much needed day of rest.

rainbow maple leaves

This has been one of those weeks

Our Rainbow scrap challenge color for February is sea green. I kept a look out for this color while I was shopping. One minute I see it as green and the next blue. Remember these wreaths from the 80s?

I had plenty of 2 1/2 inch squares but I needed strips to cut 1/2 square triangles.

I webbed them together first. And then the rows

I just love them and they look so great with the other blocks I have done in pastels.
I am hoping to can vegetable soup this weekend. I found top round BOGOF. Seems an odd sale for meat, but it was affordable.

forest friends

My friend Judy is nearly done with her fancy forest blocks. They are absolutely adorable. I love how she has used solids.

We had a chalk painting class at church. I do love how easily chalk paint coats, and dries, and manipulates.

 A friend brought this quilt for show and tell. Her daughter made this for her for Christmas. It was beautifully done.

I've had commitments most of the week, and it's Friday and I am just now feeling like I can get something done. sigh...I am really looking forward to the weekend.

Rug hooking

Our rug hooking guild meeting was fun as someone is getting close to a finish. This is Vivian's rug.

I have been adding some of the little doodads to mine before I can take off onto the background.

My goal to work on my Marie Webster American Beauty Rose quilt everyday in February, started with cutting the big hunks of interfacing apart. And the interfacing just kept coming and coming..... sigh...

American Beauty Rose

An actual blue sky. I haven't seen that in weeks. Hooray

Judy of Patchwork times has drawn a new UFO number # 9  and mine is American Beauty Rose, a Marie Webster reproduction quilt. I am very excited to get started on this. I bought it last summer.
It uses quiltsmart interfacing. Which made it look doable for me. But I am sure it will still be a challenge. All I have done is buy the fabric, but I put it on the ufo list because I didn't want it to become lost forever in the black hole project closet.

My One monthly goal is to begin the quilt, working on it everyday in February. At which time, I will decide if it stays as an "in the background project" or gets put away until I can devote another chunk of concentrated time. I think that once I get it to the applique stage, I can work on it in the evenings as my hand project.

Yesterday was small quilt group and I worked on my red/ neutral hourglasses for pfefferneuse. If I have counted right, I have all the hourglasses finished, and I have started putting them together in groups of 4.

I am pinwheel challenged and wonder what would be an acceptable percent of failures in the center- 10% 20%? I am only showing the ones that are great. But we shall forge ahead.
