trimming garden party

It's finally time to trim my garden party blocks since they are all done. It seems that no matter how I try to be accurate, I have a bit to trim. It doesn't take much extra to throw me off when I assemble. I would prefer to fudge more by not trimming, where I could line the pieces up even if they are not exactly right, but I have trouble with that.

I and a good quilty friend attended a big quilt show in Indianapolis this past weekend. The quilts were amazing, and I found some real treasures in the "garage sale", especially after everything went to half price. I really enjoyed the antique quilt bed turning. I learned so much. These are the quilts of the featured quilter.

I would love to know how to make the circle blocks in the border. Anyone know what they are?

  1. I too, always seem to never have perfect blocks. Love the photo of the pile of scraps. Oh my, some gorgeous quilts at the quilt show. How lovely to walk around with your friend, and 'study' all that beautiful work.

  2. I have also been intrigued with this pattern and had pinned it a looooooong time ago. Here is a link that tells where the pattern is and how one quilter approached it: http://justquilts-funoldhag.blogspot.com/2010/02/whirly-twirly-round-and-round_12.html?m=1

  6. All those different blocks in one quilt but still cohesive. Beautifully done. That would really challenge me.

  7. Looking at the quilts of Cyndia you posted I realized she has done a lot of different type quilting. I particularly like the one you featured. Ah, those pesky blocks that won't end up the same size. Blast them. I hate cutting blocks to the correct size. Glad you are done with that part and can go on to the next step.
