florabunda again

I am having a little bit of trouble getting the angle of the HSTs right. I can't just web the block together and start the assembly, without spreading it out, and checking it for mistakes. I am sure the more I make, the better it will get. But, it seems that I can look at a good block for placement, and, by the time, I pick up the next piece my mind has switched it. sigh....

But, it's worth it, I like the blocks, and, it's exciting to see each block. I need 72, and, I am going with the plan to use up the scrap, so, there will be repeats. If I scatter them throughout the quilt I don't think it will be that noticeable that I have repeated some of them.

stars

I had some time this weekend, while watching general conference, holding my sweet new Grandson.

I enjoyed making the green scraptastic star so much, I decided to see if I had enough red and yellow 2 1/2 inch squares to catch up with the rainbow scrap challenge. This hadn't been a planned rainbow quilt, until, I was playing in the squares.

Umm.. I had plenty of squares haha. I have even pulled aqua squares for April's color.

My oldest son being a loving daddy makes me happy. This is number six for him.

aqua color?

Aqua is the color for the month of April at the rainbow scrap challenge. I am not sure I know what aqua is. I am easily confused by turquoise, teal and aqua. my first inclination is that aqua is a lighter color than the other two. I found this online.

And I dug through the strip bins.

I guess for my projects it doesn't really matter, I can pick what ever color I want to use.
So, I have another crayon made.

And another wiggle row. But, that is as far as I got this week.

smith mountain morning rows

One of my monthly goals for April is making smith mountain morning, a Bonnie Hunter class I took in 2014.
I had all the blocks made, I just needed to assemble the top and I have started the rows. That is when I discovered I am missing 2 blocks, one of each, the star and the the log cabin.

I don't know why all the fabrics are not with the blocks, so I am scrounging around to find what will look like the originals. This is a great reason why I should not procrastinate the finishing like I do.
I have the star block finished. I have certainly improved as a quilter. The block was easier than it had been when I started the quilt. I am liking the colors together.

florabunda

While I was clearing the cutting table yet again, I found a small baggie of these floral fabrics. They were all less than a fat quarter, and I didn't remember bringing them home on purpose. I am guessing it was gifted to me( the crazy lady who likes scraps). All the florals together reminded me of a quilt on my maybe someday list. A Bonnie Hunter quilt called florabunda. It is a free quilt on her site. I have always loved florals and I love yellow, it seemed like a perfect match,

I grabbed a stack of yellows and yellow scraps and started a new quilt. It was easier than putting them away.

and one done

oops -let's try that again..

full

The closet is full - stuffed of quilts to be quilted.

and it has spilled into any other space I can hang something - Over doors, door knobs.

The spare bedroom has started collecting finished quilts that don't fit in my cabinet.

And, still, I have a compulsion to cut more fabric.

Isn't it fun to start a new quilt?! So fun.. yipee- smiley face

april one monthly goal

I am glad for a new month to see what quilting goals I can accomplish. I appreciate the one monthly goal party for helping to set goals and keep a focus for the month.

In April, I want to finish the quiltville mystery quilt Allietare. The main part of the top is finished, I need to add borders and quilt it. I stopped when it was time to trim the top. That was a scary step. I feel braver now.

I am ready for the next batch of circa 1880 swap. I need 30 blocks. I have been finding bits and pieces of reproduction fabric as I clean and tidy, so I will use those pieces first.

And I want to assemble the top for my Smith mountain morning quilt. I took a class with Bonnie Hunter in fall of 2014. I had 2 friends with me, and I think I will challenge them to at least look at it this month.

And I want to keep current with my rainbow scrap challenge quilts.
