Bonnie fan

I consider myself a Bonnie Hunter fan - I discovered her blog in 2008 and I attended my first workshop in 2009. I am just one of many faceless followers. I'm not so sure what appealed to me the most in the beginning. But I was pretty excited about using recycled shirts. I had and still have a problem with the leader/ ender idea of creating an extra quilt, since I worked that way anyway, only on finishing the quilt I was working on at the time.
I am definitely more traditional than modern, only in that I don't think naming it something different, makes it so.
So as I was flipping through the book to see how many triangle units I needed for scrap crystals, I realized I had started all but one of the quilts in her book More adventures with Leaders and enders. Imagine my surprise.

Next surprise - not one of them is a quilt. 4 of them are flimsies waiting to be quilted and 5 are all pieced and just need to be assembled  and 2 are barely cut. I haven't even thought about winston ways.
I have my 12 UFO 2017  and One monthly Goal projects list and none of them are on it. hmmm
and this is just one of her books.
I wonder what this means?
well..1. I do like to piece and Bonnie quilts are definitely piecing oriented.2. I don't like to finish. 3.I want to cut up all my scraps, and believe they will all get used. and, 4. it has to be my Mother's fault - everything is. LOL

In the meantime, I have all the civil war En Provence units finished.
 I had a lovely, early dinner with my #4 and #5 sons. I had a wonderful time eating sushi with the best looking guys in the place! Did I mention they are so funny?

Moving Forward

Thanks to the quiltathon weekend, all my border units for midnight flight are finished.

as a matter of fact, all my units are pieced. hooray. There are a gobzillion pieces I have put together a little at a time as an away from home sewing project.

Now it is time to retire this quilt from active duty and find another no brain sewing project to take to my small quilt groups. But I have 576 bonus triangles from midnight flight in purple or blue and neutral  that will be the seeds for scrap crystals. I need 684. that shouldn't take long.
I came up 5 units short for piecing the hourglass blocks for pfeffernuese. on the plus side, at this point, there is no stress over what to do with the leftover units haha.

My En Provence  bright is all ready to start assembly

My civil war version needs the 4 patches and both hour glass units.

I thought Joann was having a great sale. All the fabric was on sale and then there was a coupon for 25% off regular and sale fabric purchase. Sounds like a winner, but the small print says only if on a day that doesn't end with a y. It is really hard to find a genuine deal. So I think my 25% off was 2.81. Still, I was happy that I didn't get toooo much.  A few remnants...

The big purchase was the Kona Graphite for this great quilt I saw on Sarah's blog Confessions of a fabric addict called exploding stars. I want to make this quilt, so I have added it to the line up. Isn't it wonderful? She has other star quilts she is sharing - really great!

I have arrived at this point with American Beauty Rose and will be hand stitching this today - I am so excited

Quiltathon day 3

Quiltathon day 3 Judys at Patchwork times.

I sewed with some of my quilting friends.

I have all the February RSC 17 blocks finished for the pineapple blossom quilt. (  free Bonnie Hunter pattern) I have a start on the 1/2 square triangles for the border.
I made another garden leaf

I am laying out American Beauty rose. I just have to be brave and iron them down. sigh....

We sew at the library, and we discovered this new display made by school children. It's a real light fixture made from 1275 recycled water bottles. They were hand painted and cut in a spiral. They were trying to imitate Chihuly. It was quite spectacular. And ... I want one.

quiltathon day 2

Judy at Patchwork Times quiltathon day 2 for me. I sewed a few flowers for American Beauty Rose, and I am ready to start laying them on the block. This part has me intimidated.

As a diversion from having to take the next step on Rose, I made some leaves for the Rainbow scrap challenge. At the last minute, last month, I decided to add 2 new quilt starts to the challenge. Maple Leaves and Cutting Garden. so I still have last months leaves to make. I need 9 of them.

I spent some time sewing cheddar onto my midnight flight rectangles , and marking bonus triangles using Bonnie Hunter's bonus buddy. I do love that thing.

While resting. I decided to unknit my sock that had gone terribly wrong. It was risky to take it apart. But, it was either that or start over. If this doesn't work I will start over. problem solved.

I think I caught it all and got back on good footing. Pun intended. I am going to turn the heel yet again.

Pretty exciting day that even included a little fabric shopping ( who me?) and much loved time talking with my daughter via hangouts.

snow = soup

Our first snow of the year. It was so pretty and flakey. It took awhile for it to stick.
SO  soup...
Oh my goodness this is yummy.

1 lb. Italian sausage-I used a pound of mild spicy sausage

4-6 russet potatoes, chopped

1 onion, chopped
1/4 c. REAL bacon pieces - I cooked the bacon in the air fryer.
 minced garlic to taste
32 oz. chicken broth-I used water and bullion
1 c. kale or Swiss chard, chopped
1 c. heavy whipping cream
2 Tbsp flour

1. Brown sausage in a pan.
2. Place sausage, chicken broth, garlic, potatoes and onion in slow cooker. Add just enough water to cover the vegetables and meat.
3. Cook on high 3-4 hours (low 5-6 hours) until potatoes are soft.
30 minutes before serving:
4. Mix flour into cream removing lumps.
5. Add cream, kale, and bacon to the crock pot, stir.
6. Cook on high 30 minutes or until broth thickens slightly.
7. Add salt, pepper, and cayenne to taste.

I'm thinking of canning this in a base form, And just adding the cream, roux, kale, and bacon after I open the can to eat.

I'm planning a weekend of quilting with Judy of patchwork Times quilt a thon.

I am still working on American Beauty Rose. I tried my hand at the little fiddley pieces. I used an hemostat for  turning, It worked really well.

Today, I expect to start adding pieces to a block background and see if the pieces will work together. I see this as a reproduction quilt, but quiltsmart instructions are more interested in ease of completion. They are recommending that I zig zag the pieces to the block. I think I want to hand stitch. I think I will have more control of hiding the interfacing if I do it by hand.
We will see.

baby gift finish

I have a finish for a baby gift. I am going to count it even if it is a raggy fleece blanket and not a quilt. It is cute and very boy, just what was needed.

I had 2 cozies orders this week for rug hooking frames.

I moved ahead on my Ufo for February, preparing some swags for American Beauty Rose.

I own a set of fast turn but have not had much luck with them. Luckily, I also have this set of turn it all that did the trick. I have hemostats for the little pieces. So far the hardest part is not being able to iron everything to make it look all nice and crisp. The interfacing has adhesive for sticking it all together in the end. If I press it now, I will have a lovely ironing board, but not a quilt LOL. It is such a habitual thing to iron after sewing, I miss it.
