I finished the last 2 blocks from yesterdays post about my zig zag ripple blocks. I decided to finish with gray for the blocks.

I enjoy participating in the rainbow scrap challenge each year. I pick a few quilt ideas that will use up scraps in a certain size. This year for the 1 1/2 inch strips I followed the color of the month and made a zig zag ripple block. Now, that it is the end of the year, I wanted to clean out some of my projects and regroup. I did a count of ripple blocks for the year and I had 70 finished. My goal was 72. I found 2 gray strips and I will make those and, then, the blocks will go into the ufo closet for a little vacation.
I am still catching up with purple monkey wrench blocks from March. I started making sugar grove hsts. These are the sets of 5 alike that I need in yellow. Next, I will be finding/cutting sets of 4. I have been through the big bucket of leftover triangles, and didn't find any. Most likely, I will be cutting what I need.
The color for April and the rainbow scrap challenge is yellow. I dug out my yellow 2 1/2 inch strip bin and started cutting for my projects. The drawer was nearly empty, but, I found enough to cut for windmills, checkers, and this year's stashbuster. The pile on the left is a collection of shorter strips that I can use for sugar grove hsts and monkey wrench hsts. I am ready to sew
I am still using purple monkey wrench blocks as leader/ enders for other projects.

I made few zig zag ripple blocks in purple for the rainbow scrap challenge. I am using 1 1/2 inch strips for these blocks. I didn't have that many long enough in my bag of strips. Actually, I don't have many purple scraps in any size.
Today I am at a sleep in your own bed quilt retreat. Yesterday, I came back from lunch to find Florence the featherweight with a new accessory. She felt much appreciated with the new look, and, I have a new scrap LOL
This week I worked on sugar grove and the purple hsts I need for the rainbow scrap challenge. I made 180 for sets of 5, 4, 3,2,1. I didn't have any purple in the extra hsts drawer. I needed to cut and sew all of them this month.

March is purple for the rainbow scrap challenge. My 2 1/2 inch strip drawer is not very full compared to the red and green we have already used this year. My goal for red and green was to reduce the strips by half, and I did that. This month I may have to find any purple scraps in hiding and cut them to fill the chunks and strip bins.
I cut for windmills, checkers, stashbuster 24, and traffic jam. I pulled the shorter strips for monkey wrench hsts. There is no purple for the baby 30s quilt. And I still have to find some form of purple in my applique for across the wide missourri quilt.
The new color for March has not been announced for me to prepare anything, which is fine, I barely finished the reds I needed for February and the rainbow scrap challenge.

On a whim, I decided to add another rainbow scrap challenge block to my list using 1 1/2 inch strips.
ok a rant. Do you have those quilting snobs in your guild? While I was sewing these blocks together at an open sew. One quilter approached me and said -when I see you sewing these, I think it is a complete waste of perfectly good thread. Then she looked at my thread, never mind, that is cone thread and it is not even good thread. I had to chuckle Especially when you think about our quilting ancestors using whatever they had available to express their creativity and ingenuity. Not that I am creative or ingenious - I just like to sew pieces of fabric together... No need to remind this community that one man's junk is another man's art.
