5 quilt report January 31, 2024

 Last report January 3, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

 I finished 3 ufos in January. I feel like I keep showing the same finishes too many times. But, I want to end the month of January, and, start planning the month of February.

I wanted to finish 2 quilts In the 'to be quilted closet' before I did any other UFOs. I finished....

1. too many circles -  finished too many circles 

2. carolina chain is finished. But, the weather has not cooperated with photos.

3. assembling rick rack nines was my One monthly goal for january. I made the goal and added it to the quilting list. This will be my February One monthly goal to have a finished quilt.

4. portage lake block of the month - open the box - I really really like this kit and quilt. But, I wonder if it is more than I want to do right now.

5. mini churndashes  - assemble -I have found the 6 inch churndashes that I planned to use in  the quilt I want to make. I am excited to combine 2 older ufos into one top. I have started the trimming, and, I have sewn a few twosies. It will be one of my regular piecing projects for social sewing and open sews in February.

3. glitter - I worked a little with these blocks in January, and, will make them a part of my regular piecing projects in February. I have them all in twosies and a row together. There is a lot of seam matching.

5. split 9 patch -This is new for February. I will open the box and see where this older Ufo  is in the assembly stages. I am pretty sure all the blocks were finished as leader and enders in 2013. I have 245 of them.

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. I think I started  in Ocotber 2021.

This year, I am determined to empty my 'to be quilted closet'. In 2023, my numbers stayed the same as I tried to finish ufos all the way through quilted and bound. I finished quilts, but, didn't get around to reaching into the closet very often. There are some lovely tops in the closet that I want to see finished. My plan is to consider a top first in the quilting cue rather than a finished ufo. Now, to be fair, I have not let anytime on the longarm go lax this year. So, maybe, I can't get anymore quilted than I did in 2023.

I am also thinking I will plan each month separately, or, start over in the new month. I will have to see how January finishes. The new change means that if I have finished quilting number 1 and 2, I will start the new month with another 2 from the to be quilted closet as first priority.

One thing, I haven't decided is the second quilts. Sometimes, when I finish a ufo, there is enough fabric/ pieces for a second quilt. Do I put the new quilt idea into the list, or ugh, add it to the Ufo closet? or, just forget about it and throw the fabric into the scrap bins also ugh.

My one monthly goal for January -rick rack nines assembled into a top ready for quilting. This is a bonnie Hunter quilt project that has languished since 2018. I have 290- 9 patches and several yards of background in the box. At first, I did not want to finish it. But, with the new year is new motivation. I have cut some background squares and sewed some sets of 2 for the 9 patches. I do love a scrappy quilt.

I added this quilt to my wish list in July 2016, and I really liked it. This is not mine

I considered joining a block of the month. I am drawn to Minnick and Simpson's work. I have even done a rug hooking project of theirs. But I have so many projects I need to finish, and so many started that I talked myself out of it.
I have been such a good girl ( you know where this is heading right?) and finished many quilts and rugs since 2016, and I have been very patient ( only checking every month or so) for it to go on sale and it did. so....

What a nice box...

It is living at my house and will probably be my one monthly goal for January. There is a lot of fabric in the box that needs to be reported. Fingers crossed it will also be reported as going out as well.

As long as I break even in a year, I will consider it a success right?

I am very close to finishing the hooking on these pot holders. I will work on them while I listen to general conference
