One monthly Goal march

It's time to report and link with One Monthly goal at Elm street quilts. I had already posted about my lazy Sunday finish which was one of my goals.

I knew I had just 6 days left to finish my goal for Marie Webster quilt. I needed to make a new set of everything to prepare the block. I have one block left to do and then I will decide how to finish the quilt. My goal was to work on it and finish at least one block. I have finished 4.

The last block will be done by the end of the month. hooray.

There was a big snow in the southern part of Indiana. It missed us but hit where my Grandchildren are so we didn't get to visit. boo
Today is both rug hooking guild and quilting guild. Should be a happy day. Do you belong to a guild?

This is Carmen's rug

lazy sunday finish

Lazy Sunday is now a quilt to be used and loved. I am so excited.

I added this quilt to my plan in March 2013 when rumors leaked there would be a Bonnie Hunter mystery in the quiltmaker magazine.  I grabbed my colors in May. In June I started cutting and piecing  and had all the blocks done in July. I didn't start assembling the top until Jan 2014.  I had all the borders finished in March of 2014. So it is fun that it was my March goal to finish it this year. I had a few road blocks, but, the love of the colors and pattern kept me going.  I really like it finished. Every step closer to a finish makes a quilt look better. Imagine that....

The pattern was a 4 part mystery in Quiltmaker Spring 2013, and then Bonnie Hunter added it to her latest book Addicted to scraps. I quilted it with white in big swirls. It is about 90 x 100.

progress

note
I am following along with Jo of Jo's country junction and her string challenge. I am doing my own version, but with quiltville mystery quilts. I have been working on lazy Sunday for the month of March. I began thinking I would have this done very quickly, but it has met a few road blocks. I finished the quilting this weekend, and I am ready for some evening time hand sewing the binding for a finish.

I had a chance to add a little more stitching to snow days. After the churn dash was added I could add the transfer eze to the bottom portion of the block for the upper portion of the tree. I love how crabapple hill designed this to continue into the piecing.

It's official that we are not moving to New York. My hubby does not have a job prospect yet, but we are hopeful.

marie webster pieces

I like the hand stitching part of this quilt, but not the sew the interfacing part. I am sure I could not do a very good job of applique without the quiltsmart, because I just don't have the experience and practice, but I do dread the sewing the pieces part.

Still, I have finished 3 blocks this month.

Here is my favorite little messy happy place near the tv where I am working on 3 different projects and somehow have them all right beside me.
I have an American Beauty rose block I am hand stitching, under that is the rug ( uncle Sam's Hat ) I am hooking. I also have the lazy sunday quilt that I am rechecking for mistakes. There is barely  enough room for my feet.

lazy sunday fixed

I have fixed all the oops for lazy sunday read about it yesterday.
much better  -the center is all green

and all the 4 patches and 1/2 square triangles are pointing in the right direction. Boy, it is not fun taking pieces out of the center of a quilt. I need to check and recheck before it gets to the flimsy stage. I admit I am not focused enough at the just get it done stage.

backing is pieced and on the longarm and I have made a mass of binding.

lazy sunday oops

My Goal for the month was to quilt Lazy Sunday. It was all pieced, and I all I would have to do was put it on the frame and quilt it. Easy win. I thought I had all month, and I could dawdle if I wanted.
First, there was no back or binding. ugh. I usually don't put a quilt away if that is not done.
Second, I put it on the frame and something didn't look right. hmmmm
It looks like I got 2 rows switched, but I can fix it by taking just the two main blocks and switching them.

oops

yep, I have to take it apart and fix it. I just have to do it. sigh....

I am so glad I saw it before I quilted it. Sometimes, I don't see the mistakes until I am sleeping under them.

March goals

I want to spend March, as part of my one monthly goal working, on my marie webster  quilt again. It needs more hand stitching. I have 4 blocks finished, and I need 12.

I want to do the quilting on my lazy sunday quilt which was a quiltville mystery quilt in Quiltmaker magazine in 2013. This is also part of my mystery quilt challenge that I am doing as part of Jos Country junction challenge

planet quilt

I finished the planet quilt with time to spare. how exciting!

I couldn't find anything I liked to make a border. I wanted to make it bigger, but I just couldn't like anything I tried. I had enough 2 inch strips left to do a small border if I did it scrappy. I like it. And it is done and ready to be gifted to my Grandson.
What I am really excited about is that I really thought the purchase through before adding yet another project to the list. I was convinced I would get to it, but secretly afraid I wouldn't. I have 8 year old projects. but I did get to it and finish it in a quilter's reasonable amount of time. ... or so I think.

As far as participating in Jos string challenge and my corresponding mystery quilt challenge, I finished easy street.

the next quiltville mystery quilt to work on is either to quilt lazy sunday or add borders to carolina crossroads or just keep piecing on ringo lake.
