churn dash top finish

The churn dash top is finally finished even with a border. I really like the border, it is richer than the picture. I have found a back and prepared binding and have added it to the 'to be quilted' closet. It is happily chatting with friends and waiting it's turn.

I added this Ufo to my 5 quilts in February, and have been assembling it since then.

churn dash top

Churn dash is nearly a top. I have the inside sashing done, but I ran out of sashing material. I need to dig in my stash for a suitable match for the inner border before I can add the border and call it done for now. Churn dash is an older ufo that I plan to finish this year as part of my 5 quilts project.

churn dash sashing

Now that I have a plan for my churn dash quilt, I have started the sashing. I really don't like sewing sashing, so I will be slow going. I will have to bribe myself with happy rewards. Still, I am happy with how it looks and that might help.

churn dash plans

Once all my churn dash quilt blocks were in sets of two, I decided on a 4 patch grid for my quilt. I had a chance to lay it out and move it around. I want all of the blocks like the top row.

I plan on sashing it with a navy blue and adding a navy floral border. I found a set in my stash that I like. I had more 6 inch churn dashes and sewed them in sets of four to sprinkle in with the others. I wasn't sure what I was going to do until this point. Now, I have a plan. I am happy to be in the home stretch. This is part of my 5 quilts ufos project.

still churning

After a day at open sew, I have more churn dash blocks in sets of 2. They are not as quick as they look. First I trim a bunch of mini churndashes, and then, I sew them into foursies. I sew the set of 4 to a 6 inch churn dash block.

I finished a postage stamp quilt and added the second ring to clarissa in between sewing other blocks.

just dashing

I really don't like trimming, but, the little mini churn dashes are a little wonky. The best I can do is a little at a time, Then, I make foursies with them and add them to their larger counter part. It keeps me motivated. And I feel like I am making progress.
