girlie garden progress

Here is as far as I could get with my pink bonus rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy for February. I cut the blocks from the strip sets....

I sliced them twice on the diagonal to make triangles.

The plan was to go as far as I could by the end of the month, and get back to my regularly scheduled program. But, I don't think I can do that. I can smell a finish, and, I may want to keep going. My rsc projects are quicker this year than usual, and, I may leave it for March bonus time. My head is still talking about it.

pinwheels progress

I had a chance to make more scrappy pinwheel blocks, and, check how they will work as a row. I am really liking how easy this pattern is for scraps. When I cut my 2 1/2 inch strips for any other project, I can cut either the 4 1/2 inch or 6 1/2 inch rectangle from the leftover, depending on what is left. If, I can get a 2 1/2 inch square from any leftovers, I can use that, too. The background is a 4 1/2 inch square and 2 1/2 inch squares. I cut for 20 blocks with this older Ufo, which is 80 pieces of each. I don't have a pattern for this. I just saw a picture somewhere, and did the math.

And, now, I have a record of scraps from 2018- haha

kristals one monthly goal

I have decided to finish my kristals quilt for March as my one monthly goal. I have 3 blocks together. and I want to make 9. So far, I have the rest of the blocks on the design wall in a sketchy pattern to check for fabrics. The first block was a head scratcher, then, it started to make more sense, and, then, it was fun. Probably true for all challenges in the quilting world.

scrappy pinwheels start

I opened another Ufo box for my 5 quilts projects, and, found a fun older project. So, I am sewing scrappy pinwheels at Friday sews. It is easy and portable. It is fun to revisit some oldie but goodie fabrics as I piece the blocks. I found 3 different block pieces cut, and, made, when I opened the box. I needed to sew into block quarters below. This could easily be a jelly roll pattern.

Evidently, I can't count. I needed to cut and add a few more. My goal was 80 blocks.

So, that, I could make 20 pinwheel blocks for the quilt.

1st block- 19 to go

This close to the end of the month, I can check the boxes for my ongoing PHD at quilting gail. I have finished 4 so far this year, and, my goal is 12.

stash report 2/26/2023

I was gifted these 'scraps'. The middle one was 2 1/2 yards, the rest were bits and pieces. I don't count them in yardage, unless they are over 1/2 yard or are a fat quarter.

Stash report February 26, 2023

fabric added: 2 1/2 yards
fabric added year to date: 25 yards

fabric used: 22 yards  I finished circa 1880
fabric used year to date: 78 yards

53  yards used more than bought

I sewed 4 days last week.  including Friday  and Saturday sew.

I will have a large border background to hook, but, the letters are all done.

This is the color I am dyeing for the background

The camera catches the color differently. It is a gold color.

girlie garden quilt

I finished early with my pink rsc projects for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. So, I perused the Ufo list for a mostly pink project. I have a few of them. I had added a few to my ufos expecting to have granddaughters. But, out of 12 Grandchildren, I only have 2 and they are nearly grown.

quilt kit I bought in 2014

It is a quick quilt that uses 2 1/2 inch strips. I cut the strips and started sewing them together. I have all the strip sets finished I will need.... I hope.

We will see how far I can advance this quilt before March. I do have an open sew today. I am hoping to work on scrappy pinwheels and this girlie garden quilt.

kristals progress

I have made progress on my kristals project. I have all the small kristal pieces ready, so I was able to
get an idea of how it was going to look as a block.

I can't really sew it together without laying it out, which, is problematic for me. I decided to get all 9 blocks to this point, and wait until, I could lay it out on a small design surface. It is exciting to see that it will work with my fabrics.
