almost amish finish and one monthly goal

I have finished almost amish for my one monthly goal.

65 x 76

I used a tye dye sheet for the back and quilted in free hand swirls

This was a mercy project - I felt sorry for it and then it took over. It could easily be a jelly roll quilt as it uses 2 1/2 inch strips. I have a whole shelf of solid fabric that I rarely use. I am glad I could find the colors I wanted on that shelf.

October one monthly goal

I didn't finish my one monthly goal for August until September, and, I didn't even make a goal for September. I have 45 of my own quilts in the 'to be quilted' closet. Which is ridiculous. I have set a goal to work on the longarm with my own quilts at least 30 minutes each day until the end of the year. I wonder how many I can do with just 30 minutes. I am also hoping that once I start I will just keep going past 30 minutes. But, we are still finishing the garden.

Read about the start of this almost amish here.

My plan is to quilt and bind this quilt for my one monthly goal at elm street quilts in October.

I have 5 quilts I am focusing on right now

1. sea swept just needs backing and binding and a turn on the longarm.

2. fish school

3. scrappy mountain majesties is an older UFO I want to get to the top stage

4. boho heart is a QAL with my Friday quilting friends

5. and labels and prepping my quilts for the quilt show

border time

We had a guild class last Saturday, The class was the collage technique by Laura Heine. I really like the look of her patterns, but, our teacher had made some really amazing collage quilts that we saw in person. The class was fun, but, I wasn't one of her successful students. I just couldn't get the "any little motif" can turn into a big picture thing. It wasn't for me. Maybe, sometime later. I didn't even take pictures.

After the class was finished, I had time to layout  almost amish from Jos country junction here. It was time for borders. I used  2 1/2 inch strips of brown for the borders. And now, I have a top.

When I find/ piece a top, it will go to the "to be quilted" closet and party with it's friends.

The start is here. And the other blocks are here.

I am adding the unused cora the owl pattern to my etsy shop

rows upon rows

I have all the blocks for almost amish from Jos country junction here. in rows.

And I have started to assemble the top. It is slow going for me, as I am angularly challenged. There is a graph in the book I am following. I can get the angle wrong while looking right at it. All I have to do is look at the pieces and they thread. I will need to spend a lot of time with a lint brush.

blocks done

I have been chasing this project since last week. I have all the blocks done for almost amish from Jos country junction here. Once I finished 2 colors of blocks, I just couldn't stop. I now have all 7 colors made, and can start assembling the top.

The start is here. And the other blocks are here.

country roads top

I found crocus blooming and rhubarb is peeking it's head out of the ground

I added a 2 1/2 inch border to my country roads quilt. I finished the top at the last retreat. It was part of the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy for the last two years. I made the blocks in each month's color.

I needed a 97 x97 back, so, it was time to use a wide backing that I bought during a backing sale at joann fabrics. I chose more yellow for the binding and this quilt now lives in the " to be quilted" closet with many other friends. It seems like just yesterday, it was a newborn quilt awwww

I shared the restart of an old ufo that has me in it's hypnotic power. I made all the blocks I will need for 2 of the 7 colors. So, far, each step has made me want to do "just " a little more. Now, that 2 colors are done, I might as well make one more.

and so it goes...

a new old project

Shhh I am not really working on this project. It is not on the list for the month.. or the year..

It was part of the huge reorganization of ufo projects. I felt sorry for it. I knew it would not get picked as the top ten projects for many years to come. It would just sit there, looking sad every time, that it was not chosen. And, all I would have to do is sew a few 2 1/2 inch strips together, that are already cut.

This is a quilt called almost amish from Jos country junction here. Sewing the strips together was quick and easy, so enough and done.

Well, not exactly. It wouldn't hurt to just subcut a few sets called for in the pattern.

done? um.. I could just iron...

early Christmas present

Hubby made an early Christmas present, and I am soooo excited. I dread ironing big quilts on a regular ironing board...
 He cut the plywood 22 x 62
We used 4 layers of batting and an old wool blanket. It works like a dream.I tried it on my finished top of En Provence. What I noticed is, that as I sprayed water on it, I was able to iron it dry better. I won't be able to quilt this for this month's one monthly goal as I have 5 customer quilts to do first, and they are for Christmas. I am so grateful they are not waiting until the last minute. So mine will have to wait.

On my list for next year's rainbow scrap challenge is Almost Amish by Jo and Kelli Kramer ( Jo's Country junction) I have it all cut and ready to go. It fits in the brown month.
