snow ball 2sies

I have built enough sashings to join 2 blocks together for all 5 rows of snowball blocks. I am on my second bag of 2 inch squares. I am enjoying the surprise of how they look when I finish each 2 sie. I have a somewhat random technique for choosing the 2 inch squares together. When I reach for a square, my head says I don't like that one, so I choose another. I do that for about 2 or 3 choices. And, then, my head says it's time for an ugly one. In the end, it really doesn't matter. The overall look is fun and scrappy.

stash report July 27, 2025

I am still sorting through a box of odd fat quarters. These are the pink and red fabrics. I put these in the scrap bins. I am seeing the bottom of the box.

fabric used year to date for 2025: 186 1/2 yards

145 1/2 yards used more than bought in 2025

I sewed 2 days last week.

I have created a new friendship swap for my rug hooking group. It is a swap rug. Everyone wanted houses this time. It has two rows of houses, and trees, too. We each do a house on our own rug, and then, we pass it around for everyone to hook a house on our rug, When we are done, we will have a rug with our friends hooking on it. I have made 2 or 3 others and they are such a treasure.

We have a goal to trade every two weeks. This was my hooking for last week on Mary E's rug. The green in the windows are supposed to be curtains. The door looks a bit better in person.

last purple scrap week

This is the last week of the purple scraps for the rainbow scrap challenge. I found 70 purple 2 inch hsts for bonnie Hunter basket quilt. This is month 7 for the hsts, and, I haven't had to cut or sew 90% of them. I have had them in drawers since I have started quilting again. Most of them are bonus triangles, or leftovers from projects. I have had to trim and press. At this point I have at least 490 of the ready to go. I need 700, just a few more to go.

I had one  sugar grove blocks with purple for the center. I didn't get it finished, yet.

I have my 6 windmill blocks in purple, with one lonely monkey wrench.

strip twist quilt finish

I have a finish, and, it isn't even an official part of my 5 quilt project. I decided to add this to my Rainbow scrap challenge projects this month as part of the purple color work. It was already a top but, needed a border and quilting.  This is an older purple ufo from 2013 called strip twist jelly roll surprise.

60 x 68 =14 yards

snowball sashing

After all the snowball blocks were finished, I laid them out, and, realized, that I would want pieced sashings to join the blocks. I am planning on a 4 x 5 setting for the quilt. I was able to make all the block sashings at open sew. Each sashing will need 7- 2 inch squares. I thought it would take forever, but, it was rather soothing to send 2 inch squares through the machine.

Yep, that is the right plan.

purple progress

I played with more purples for the rainbow scrap challenge.

I have begun the quilting on my older purple ufo from 2013 called strip twist jelly roll surprise. I think the pattern is a free one from quiltville.blogspot.com.

I finished a sugar grove blocks and a few monkey wrenches. I have been making monkey wrench blocks since 2023. I have 117 made, and, it might be time to make decisions and finish it up this year. I have very few left that are cut.

My 2 1/2 inch purple strips bag is beginning to empty.

I cut some purple hsts for the center of another sugar grove block and have it ready to sew.

I sewed 18 inches of 2 1/2 inch strips to my windmill neutral ( light gray). I Cut them into sets of 4 - 4 1/2 inch blocks for the windmills.

border spider

Last month, I decided to grab an older ufo - 2016 called  orange spiderwebs.  Here is my first post about this quilt in 2016. The blocks were in twosies. I have finished the top by adding borders. I hope to quilt it soon. I made the string parts using an old people powered treadle. I used a domestic machine to finish. It is a bright happy quilt, using the smallest parts of my orange scraps. I have a fondness for halloween.

I decided to clean out under my longarm and replace the storage pieces underneath. The result was a huge mess on top of the longarm, LOL Nellie, my longarm, is very sullen that she hasn't been quilting. Slowly, but, surely, it will be made better.

stash report July 13, 2025

I am still sorting through a box of odd fat quarters. I found these blue ones. I have a hard time deciding how best to use them up or give them away. I really don't have any new projects coming up to plan for using them.

My stash report is the same as last week.

purple week 2

Each month for the rainbow scrap challenge I am making 2 1/2 inch squares from 1 1/2 inch strips. My plan is to make a scrappy zig zag quilt.... someday. I hope to cut and sew at least 48 blocks after sewing. I use a color and neutral strips. I have the purple done, now. So far, I have not ironed them.

This month, I joined purple with every other color from this year in twosies. - just to see. fun!

This month, I decided to work each week on my older purple ufo from 2013 called strip twist jelly roll surprise. I used a moda jelly roll and a background fabric. This week , I ironed the top , cut a border, and added it to the top. The colors are lovely. It is ready to quilt.

webbing holy toledo

I began with my holy toledo blocks in foursies and joined rows together by webbing them in the middle. It was too floppy to work with and easy to turn the rows the wrong way. I will need to make a few snips, and then, make rows. I like how this looks and hope to finish it soon.

stash report July 6, 2025

I have been digging in a box of fat quarters. These were the brown ones. Brown is a puzzle for me. I personally like brown, but, there are very few brown quilts or fabric in our modern quilting world. Still, it is a classic color, rather than trendy. what do you think?

purple project

Happy

Purple is the rainbow scrap challenge color for the month of July.

I looked through my older ufos for a quilt with purple in it for the month. As far as I know, I have 3. Strip twist, jelly roll surprise, is the closest to finishing. In the box, I found a top - 54 x 62. And a few border pieces. I have a plan, and will move this along this month.
