cutting scraps for August

One of my monthly goals for the 5 quilt project is to spend one day a month cutting scraps.

One of my monthly goals for the 5 quilt project is to spend one day a month cutting scraps. I cut a bag of scraps into useable pieces in August. The bag weighed 1 pound 4 ounces. When I was done, the parts weighed 9 ounces = 1 1/2 yards of useable fabric. + strings.  I still have a bit left to cut.

For the year, the total is 36 1/2 yards of useable fabric.

stash report September 7, 2025

This week, I attended a small quilt show in Pendleton Indiana. They have one every year, and it is located in museum. I like the quilts hanging over the antiques and curios. I bought a bag of scraps, which is a delight for me. This time, the town was hosting a fall craft festival, and, the weather was a perfect fall day.

scrap challenge for September

The color of the month is light blue and green for the rainbow scrap challenge. I have included these colors in my blue and green months. So I am caught up in my regularly scheduled projects.

I found 2 older ufos that will I will work on this month with the new colors of the month.

Baby x and o was started in 2015, when I was the workshop chairman for my guild. It was a quick baby size quilt to piece. I made bonus triangles from the cut offs of the snowball corners. It was my plan to make a border with these. I can work on sewing these together, and maybe finish the quilt this month.

Swingin checkerboard is a quilted twins free pattern that I started in 2019. I have all the 16 patch blocks made. I found scraps in the box, but, I didn't find the mint green constant for the rail fence blocks. That is probably why it was sidelined for so long. I spent some time hunting through my collections of fabric and scraps for the likely candidate. nope. I attended a quilt show in pendleton Indiana and didn't find anything in mint green. I stopped by a quilt store in Noblesville. They had a small range of mint green, but it was too expensive for an almost. On the way home, I thought of hobby lobby. And, I think I found "the one" yay!  Otherwise, I was going to put it away for another day.

My august PHD report

scrap cutting

I have added another goal to the 5 quilts project. I want to take one day a month and cut scraps. I will have plenty to choose from since I really didn't cut any for 2024, and the bags of uncut scraps are piling up, all over the fabric room. The bag weighed 1 pound 8 ounces. When I was done, the parts weighed 9 ounces = 1 1/2 yards of useable fabric. I still have a bit left to cut. For the year, the total is 36 1/2 yards of useable fabric.

quilts to be quilted:

1. wedding ring I have had this ready for a few years, but, I am afraid to quilt it myself. I want it to be special and I don't do special. So I will work to talk my self into it..... some day

2. snowball

3. chunky churndash

Looking forward to September

churndash top

While I was digging around, trying to find some wool for my rug hooking project, I found 2 missing quilts in a tub. I had given them up for lost. I have been working on my chunky churndash quilt. It just needed borders.

treasure found

I added an inner border, But the outer border was more difficult to find in my stash. The border I had with the top was not going to work. We tried at least 8 different options.

With the help of my Granddaughter, we decided on a more neutral plaid. I like it. I definitely was not going to buy anything new.

This will be my one monthly goal for September to have a finished quilt.

stash report August 31, 2025  - this is my 51st wedding anniversary

fabric added this week: 3 yards

fabric added year to date for 2025: 61 yards

fabric used this week: 2 yds donated to guild

fabric used year to date for 2025: 230 1/2 yards

169 1/2 yards used more than bought in 2025

I sewed 2 days last week.

I have created a new friendship swap for my rug hooking group. It is a swap rug. Everyone wanted houses this time. It has two rows of houses, and trees, too. We each do a house on our own rug, and then, we pass it around for everyone to hook a house on our rug, When we are done, we will have a rug with our friends hooking on it. I have made 2 or 3 others and they are such a treasure. We have a goal to trade every two weeks.

I finished this  house for Carolyn. I attempted a stained glass window and steps.
