holy toledo

In May, I began working on an older ufo, Holy Toledo is a quiltville pattern from the book shirts and scraptails 2. The top is finished and it is time to work on the borders. I had a chance to cut some of the hsts I need before my Friday sew group. I chain pieced the ones I had, and, started making the block pieces. I need 36. I see more cutting and sewing in my future. I have tried matching the shirt fabric combos before I cut. That might be slowing me. I am just afraid, if I go willy nilly cutting, I might not like the end result.

this is what I am hoping to make in  my version

stash report September 28, 2025

Hubby and I went to a quilt show and a festival all at the same time. We didn't realize that the fall festival was also starting in the same town. I used to sell my country jumpers at this festival for years, and really enjoyed it. It was great reminiscing.

My husband really liked this piece of steampunk fabric and wanted a shirt made from it. Luckily, I don't think it is big enough LOL

I bought these odd shaped scraps by the pound. I don't usually add scraps to my totals.

I have created a new friendship swap for my rug hooking group. It is a swap rug. Everyone wanted houses this time. It has two rows of houses, and trees, too. We each do a house on our own rug, and then, we pass it around for everyone to hook a house on our rug, When we are done, we will have a rug with our friends hooking on it. I have made 2 or 3 others and they are such a treasure. We have a goal to trade every two weeks.

This is my rug to do for Betty. I am working on the last two I need to do.

last week of blue and green scraps

I cut 133 - 1 1/2 inch neutral strips for swingin checkerboard. I wish I had actually made a few of the rail fence blocks, but, this  is all the pieces cut. I will gladly appreciate the progress and work on it at a later time.  Just a reminder, I made a light blue baby quilt top this month

150 strips cut

I didn't plan on working on my usual projects for the rainbow scrap challenge. But I decided to clean up the 1 1/2 inch strips from my table and make a few zigzag units with scraps.

I am scrapping the bottom of my monkey wrench blocks. I used leftover scraps here as well.

stash report September 21, 2025

I found a great new addition for my featherweight. I was at a rug hooking event, and, one of the booths had a woodworker selling quilting tools. He made a foot pedal holder for the featherweight that holds it in place, and, has a piece of wood that hits the fiddley pedal just right. I tried it and it works great. Some days, I have a little problem finding the sweet spot for the foot button, even after using it for years.

I have also been to a quilt show and added fabric. I will have to unpack and measure and fold.

baby quilt top

I was able to finish the top  for the rainbow scrap challenge. The color of the month is light blue and light green. Baby x&o is a small quilt, I started in 2015. I pieced all the hsts I had in the box, into sets of 10, in case there was not enough for each side. And there wasn't. But I ended with a number that I could divide well between the 4 sides. I did have to add fabric to the ends to make it large enough for each side. I liked how it looked and added an outer border.

it is ready for quilting - yippee!

stash report September 14, 2025

I have a big basket of  cut offs from quilting. I trim the quilts and dump them in the basket. I keep them because they are substantial pieces, and, could be combined to make a pieced backing. I am lazy about working on it. It is overflowing, because if I have a big enough piece I tend to use that first. I grabbed a hunk of of them, and started piecing some together for a franken-batting. It is an intriguing sort of puzzle.

76 x 92

63 x 84

The pink one is probably not large enough, yet. We shall see if the red and blue will work.

a little blue and green for the rainbow scrap challenge

I worked on my older ufo  for the rainbow scrap challenge. The color of the month is light blue and light green. baby x&o is a small quilt, I started in 2015. I added the inner borders with a piece of fabric that was in the project box.

I had made bonus triangles from the cut offs of the snowball corners. The hsts were also in the box. It is my plan to make a border with these.

I am making this up as I go, so, I don't know how many hsts I will need, for the next border. I have about 100 of them. I decided I would sew them together in sets of ten, and then, see how they will fit.

I did cut my choice of mint green into 17 - 2 1/2 inch strips per the pattern to move along swingin checkerboard. The pattern is for a big quilt, and my cutting is for the big quilt. I may make it smaller.

I didn't work on any of my regular rsc projects this week. I feel like I am busier than usual.
