squared away progress

We are busy exploring our new snow-less location for vacation. I have had occasion to sew a bit. Florence the featherweight has been a trooper. I threw out the blocks for squared away to get an idea and play with colors. It was easy to piece the first two rows in an on point layout. If I am not too tuckered out in the evenings, I will try to sew a row together. I don't miss the dreary back home.

strip joint quilt redo

Another new 5 quilt project is an older ufo called strip joint. I believe I cut the pieces in 2014 and sewed quadrant blocks in 2021. It looks like All the blocks are ready for assembly. I enjoy reacquainting myself with the scrappy fabrics. I am surprised I haven't finished this sooner, as it is really striking. I think it will be a good color combo for boys and men, too.

stash report January 12 , 2025

I am still digging through hidden bags and boxes. I have a small pile of giveaway fabrics that I will put in a box for donation to guild. No matter how hard I try, I will not be able to use all my fabric in my lifetime.

With the new year, I am restarting an applique project - across the wide missourri- I made this applique piece while traveling in the car. I have basted the other pieces. There will be embroidery, eventually. Right now, I just want to get the pieces attached.

dresden plate and pink

Pink is the color for January 2025 and the rainbow scrap challenge.

I began this dresden plate quilt in 1987 after my daughter was born. After 2 boys, I wanted to see pink again.  It was set aside for many years until a redo in 2020. I brought it out to work on it during the rainbow scrap challenge as a leader/ ender, and, I made a few rings that year. This year, I am once again adding it to the rainbow scrap challenge during the pink month. When I opened the box I found 12 rings together.  I had decided that I had all the rings made in 2020.  This time, I decided I would want to make 20 blocks.

My oldest ufo

I did choose the background for the blocks from my stash, which is one decision closer to a finish.

I cut this year's windmill blocks.  using a light gray background.

I found 5 sugar grove block kits with pink in them to sew this month. My rsc goal for 2023

all rows for tiny tuesday

After, all the rows were made, last week, I laid out the tiny Tuesday rows to decide the layout. So cute. It may not need a border, although I like a bigger quilt. The seams in the rows will be easy to match and assemble. I am slowly making progress.

I am off on an adventure and my Nelly nolting longarm will take a rest from last year and be ready when I am back home. She deserves it.

My quilt may or may not look a lot like diann @ little penguin quilts tiny tuesday quilt. I find her work very inspiring.

last rows tiny tuesday

The last two rows of  tiny Tuesday sampler are finished and I can begin to assemble the top. This quilt makes me smile as I look at the different blocks and happy colors. I was able to finish this at Friday quilt group. I have missed several weeks due to illness and it was great to visit with my quilting friends again. However, the library carpet is really ugly. I am already thinking about the borders.

Most of the blocks were designed by the academic quilter

peppermint candy restart

Number 2 on my 5 quilt list for 2025, is peppermint candy. I found this in quiltmaker magazine and cut it out, in 2018, while I was cleaning up Christmas fabrics. That is all the farther I got, before it landed in the ufo closet. I hope to start working on it in January, while there is snow and memories of the holidays. The plan is to finish it and not let it return to the ufo closet. Luckily, I really like red and white quilts.
