tiny Tuesday sampler restart

In September, I started planning my Tiny Tuesday adventure. I still have a main ufo I am concentrating on, but, I thought I would take this little rainbow scrap challenge sampler with me to open sew for comedic relief. I started this in 2019 and I have most of the blocks finished. I realized I had not made any of the dark blocks. Dark colors are usually the last months of the challenge, and, by then, I tend to lose interest. As a reward for making progress on midnight flight, I would make a dark block for the sampler - or eat a treat. The center blocks are 4 1/2 inches. In the sampler, the borders are either straight or diagonal. I still can't be sure if all the blocks are done, until I start joining the blocks into rows. I may have to fill in with more blocks that I discover are missing. It's a start.

Imagine my surprise when over the weekend, this happened in my sewing room. My poor Christmas cactus has a timing problem but is beautiful.

webbing midnight flight blocks

I had an open sew with my quilt guild, and, I was able to continue work on my midnight flight Ufo. I really want this quilt done by the end of the year. Last week, I had started piecing the stars. This week, I laid out each block, making sure that everything was in the right position. I sewed the top 2 quadrant blocks together, and without breaking the thread, I sewed the bottom 2 quadrant blocks.

I was able to sew all the stars into webbed blocks. Now, all the hard work of lining up the pattern is done. All I have to do now, is sew the center seam of 36 star blocks.

baby 30s challenge

This year for the rainbow scrap challenge, I started making an older ufo I called baby 30s. It is a small quilt ( baby size) that I had in the ufo closet since 2018. I found the pattern in sew scrappy magazine. I cut all the pieces then. As each color was called for the months, I made a block and sewed the strips together for the 4 patches. Last month, I made the sashing pieces. I still have November to put it together. I am a big fan of 30s fabrics even though they are not trendy. The idea that those era quilts and fabrics were created to improve a dire time with their pretty colors still works for me.

This is one of my finished quilts that is still a favorite.

5 quilt November 1, 2024

last report September 30, 2024

I try to work on these 5 quilts until they are done. Their turn in the UFO closet is over, and, they need to be finished one way or another. My top priority this year are the quilts in the to be quilted closet.

Again, health issues impacted my goals for October. I just didn't focus well or want to sew much. But, I feel better, for now, and I want to finish strong for the year. I never thought in January that I would have finished 36 ufos this year and nearly empty my over burdened 'to be quilted' closet. That is motivating to keep on going.

I finished 3 ufos in October

I wanted to finish 2 quilts In the 'to be quilted closet' before I did any other UFOs. I  only finished one. But, the second one is on the frame.

1. box kite is finished

2. lozenges  - I did not finish this one ....yet - It is on the frame

I worked on these older Ufos to finish them

1. halloween stripe runner is finished

2. diamond strings is finished

64 x 64

3. scrappy twirl new in March -I just can't seem to take this quilt seriously. Maybe I should put it back in the box. But, no, I will not be intimidated,  I am leaving it on my design wall and will wait patiently for inspiration. It is embarrassing  how long I have procrastinated this project beyond leaving it in the closet for a few years. But, the plan was once it is out of the closet, I would work on it but I didn't.

4. midnight flight - Finishing all the quadrant blocks was my October one monthly goal. I did - yipee

5. tiny tuesday - finish the blocks - I have black and brown to do.

My PHD for September

Looking forward to November:

quilts to be quilted from the closet -top priority

1. split nine patch

2. lozenges as a repeat

ufo projects for November

1. scrappy twirl -cut for the setting triangles

2. midnight flight -make star blocks -Finishing all the star blocks will be my November one monthly goal.

3. tiny tuesday -finish blocks

4. charming stars - needs sashing and assembly

5. grandpas star - needs assembly

next on the longarm- all that's left in the closet - Soon, I can quilt each ufo quilt when I finish them and continue on.

1. country roads
2. wedding ring

traffic jam blocks

I decided it was time to count and decide about my traffic jam quilt blocks. I made these this year as part of  the rainbow scrap challenge. I believe this was a Pat Sloan qal. I used 2 1/2 inch squares from my scrap bin and 4 1/2 inch square for the corners from the color of the month. The blocks are 12 inch finished. My goal for the year was 12 for a 3 x 4 layout. Now, I think that is too small. The plan is to work on these again next year with a better plan for finishing. It is a sure bet I have enough 2 1/2 inch squares in the scrap bin for next year.  Maybe a 2 1/2 inch squares sashing?

midnight flight stars

I attended my Friday quilt group and began putting the star blocks together for my midnight flight Ufo. I made four to make sure I could, and then, starting joining the blocks in twosies. At this point, I am excited to see this quilt come together. I can almost see a finish.  I like revisiting all the scraps from 2017.
