scrappy sandwiches is finished

I was able to quilt an older UFO in July and I just finished the binding. I made the shirt blocks in 2020 with an overly large bag of shirt crumbs and strings. I do love strings and crumbs and recycled shirt fabrics. I haven't made anything this year with strings and crumbs in an attempt to finish ufos- I sure do miss it. I finished the  blocks in 2021 and I added borders that year . I believe it is a free pattern on quiltville called string x

61 x 74 = 14 yards

shirt sandwiches

Sew day was Saturday with the guild. I had a new project I was anxious to start, and, I wanted to get the borders on this scrappy shirt quilt. I had started the string/crumb borders on Friday. When I laid the quilt out to measure, and cut the borders, I didn't like them at all. Which was a great reason to switch to my exciting new project. That was just what I needed to think about the borders for a bit, and, realize I just needed to keep going. Often, I don't like something at one stage and find I like it in the end. fingers crossed

After the first borders were attached, I already liked it better. I didn't get the second set done, until, I returned home. But, I knew I would finish. Now, it will live in the " to be quilted" closet.

shirt sandwiches

I made shirt strings a while back aiming for a string x quilt for leftover pieces of shirts. This weekend I spent some time cutting fabric for the sides.

It is fun to think that there are no two alike. I didn't use a foundation. I just sewed strips into bigger pieces and trimmed to the size I wanted. I used 3 1/2 x 10 1/2.

I cut the strips 1 1/2 x 10 1/2. I am making a 7 x 9 setting.

This project is one step closer, but, not part of my goal list, yet.
