wool blending

Besides quilting, I am also a spinner. I am cleaning out the fiber closet, in an effort to greatly reduce. I forgot how much fun blending wool batts can be. I new I would never use any of these colors by themselves, but should I just get rid of it?  I thought I would try a combo, thinking in my head of Strawberry lemonade. I started with bright yellow, electric pink, and white.

I added white to yellow and to pink - love it

I blended yellow and pink together - love it

And a little of all three.

It will make a great fade from color to color

Now, of course, I want to keep it all.
But if anyone wants raw sheep fleece, that needs to go.

triangles

I cut these 1/2 square triangles the wrong size. I needed 2 1/2 and they were cut 2 inches. I didn't want to waste them, so I planned to sew them later. I have moved them several times around my sewing room as I need space to work on other projects. I am tired of them not finding a home.

I just decided to sew them and put them in the pieces and parts bins with other bonus triangles. After all the procrastinating, they took 15 minutes and were now more useful.

I also have been piling the bonus triangles from my patriotic boxy stars. There should be 160 2 inch 1/2 square triangles. They are sewn, I just need to press them.

I have finished clue 2 for Ringo Lake mystery quilt. Clue 3 came out today at Quiltville.blogspot.com
Last year at this time, I was blogging about En Provence mystery quilt. and we had a tiny bit of snow. We did today as well. Somethings change and some things stay the same.

rug finish

I needed to bind my Halloween Greeting rug to finish hooking it. I wanted to try the Eaton edge. It is a nice finish for a rug and is found on you tube.
Instead of using rug tape, I decided to use a wool strip. I cut it 1 1/2 inches and joined them together with a bias seam.

I

I put it on the straight edge as if I was sewing right sides together with the seam away from the body of the rug. Next time, I will just put it wrong side down and stitch. Either way, I used a zipper foot.

Working from the wrong side I hooked a row all the way around as I would normally. getting  as close to the stitching as I could. I changed colors with the wool I thought I would reach to the edge. On the right side, the hooking appears to be much lower, but on the back when the wool is flipped to the back, it will give a cabled look to the edge.

Then I could turn it over to the right side and finish all the hooking to that edge.

I flipped the wool strip to the back and hand stitched it all the way around

I made a label...
And it was finished.

Catch up

I found the bucket for Holy Toledo quilt buried in the mess.
I have all of the large 1/2 square triangles finished. And all of the sets of three of the small  1/2 square triangles.

I have all of the rest of the small 1/2 square triangles sewn.

Now I need to make 80 sets of 4 small 1/2 square triangles.

I finished 2 customer quilts for Christmas. Not a good picture.

I am washing the batik I need for On ringo lake.

Primitive show

I am still digging around my sewing room trrying to get all pieces back together. I found more mini churndashes after I thought I had them all.

Last weekend, we attended a primitives show in Pierceton Indiana. It was really a nice show. The admission was free, and each of the vendors had some really nice items for sale.

I knew it would be great, when the popcorn vendor at the front door had popcorn garland
I watched as someone was demonstrarting locker hooking. I did this many years ago, but she made it look easier than I remember.

There were two rug hooking booths.

Recently,I have seen rug hook patterns that are copies of antique coverlets. As if by magic, every booth had reproduction coverlets just so I could get some pictures. Here are a few I thought would make good hooked rugs.

Finding a cutting surface

IT's time for the Ringo Lake mystery link up at Quiltville.blogspot.com.
I did finish clue 1 last week.
To begin this week's clue, I need to find my essential triangle tool and my cutting mat.

One of the many projects floating around are these mini churndashes that are 3 1/2 inches. They are so cute , and I have been using them as leader/ enders as I sew other blocks. I need to corral them into a bucket and call it done for awhile.
It's time for one monthly goal for the month of December. My goal is to stay caught up with the ringo lake mystery clues.

light the world

Today begins the Christmas countdown. I love this idea, and hope to follow it's suggestions for bringing a little of the light of our Savior into my December.

l
SO today is "Freely ye have received, freely give."
—Matthew 10:8

I have the patriotic boxy stars webbed together. The more I look at it, the more I think I want to go bigger. I would need to add 9 more blocks to make it 5 x 6. Heaven knows I have enough fabric to do it.

I am getting so close on this pillow and I love the background I dyed.

I started another rag rug. The plan was to use up strips if T shirt "yarn". But it was too thin, so I Had it warped, and just started using scrap fabric. I sure didn't mean to start a new project, but I didn't want to waste the warp.  I was using a new size of loom that hubby made from a picture frame from goodwill. I do like the size so far.
