clarissa centers

you may remember I wrote this about my clarissa quilt.

I saw this quilt on sane, crazy, crumby blog and loved it. She loved it from Kathy quilts. And Kathy loved it from the Shelbourne museum. Quilting is a hobby that links us to the past and to the future, a gift that keeps on giving. Thank you to all the lovely quilters who ply their art. You have enriched my life. And my daughter is an amazing quilter, too.......

I am happy to say all 36 centers are done. And, I thought, I would put it away again for another time. But, I have decided to keep them close. I have the other rounds of cut pieces in baggies by number.
I have all the pieces I would need for 36 blocks rounds with 40 in one bag, and, another baggie for the round of 24. I think I will throw a baggie in with any project I take to open sews and sew a set while I am there.

It will take awhile, but, there is no hurry. I won't notice how tedious they are, if, I am talking and having fun. haha

clarissa quilt progress

I rediscovered this project while cleaning up messes. I had a stack of related fabric scraps that I really liked, and, I started a year or so ago to make an old hourglass block quilt. I thought before I put it away in the ufo closet, I would just cut to make sure I would have enough and make 36 centers. sounded easy. the centers only have 4 hourglass blocks.

I cut most of what I had, and, then, took count to see if I would need to add more fabrics. I definitely need more. It was not as easy as it sounded. The outer row needs 40 of each print for that ring of hourglasses. I needed to cut and count and save any that had enough matching QSTS for the outer border, and, then, 24 for the middle border, and, then, I could use what was left for the centers. I was afraid if I broke up the sets to start with the centers, I would not have any left with a large enough number to make the outer ring. sigh

my baggie of sets of 40

I don't know how many I have cut, but I know that there is enough of the original fabrics in each bag, and I can go scrappy from here.
I make a couple of centers each morning as I cut and count.
I took the bag of 40 with me to an open sew, and I could run some through as I worked on my other projects. They are so cute. Each hourglass is 2 1/2 inches and will finish at 2 inches in the quilt.

Cutting and sorting does keep a mess going.

to do tuesday

Last week's to do
1. start quilted twins mystery
This was an adventure- In all this house of fabric, I couldn't find enough brown or gold for the constants in this mystery quilt. I started looking online for any suitable fabric. I didn't see any that thrilled me. I wasn't going to risk going out. Then, Joann fabric sent a coupon for curbside pick up. hmm. It took 2 attempts, but I found what I wanted. I was very frustrated in the end, but I have the fabric. That is as far as I got.

2. start quiltville mystery - unity - nope
3. sort and stash scraps from the living room - I sorted and I stashed this batch of scraps for another day. I don't know how it migrates all over the house. But, the living room is not it's home..... yet. - done

4. choose monthly goal for April - I want to quilt 2 quilts in the large pile of finished tops. - done
5. sew April rainbow scrap challenge. I have country roads, and wonky houses and stars started - done

next week's to do:
