I have the side borders finished that make them a straight line for my scrappy twirl quilt.
And, this is the plan for the top and bottom borders. This quilt is my own design and has been a headache from the start. I started out with 2 objectives. Use a seldom used template set - scrap crazy 6, and use up a pile of scraps from another quilt project. I thought I was so clever to combine the two. Geesh. A goal without a plan is a wish. And I wish I had had a plan LOL.
Because I had a long open sew day, I grabbed the easiest project on my ufo list to take, that would definitely last all day. This quilt is a Holy Toledo quiltville pattern from the book shirts and scraptails 2. It was all cut and ready to chain sew. I enjoyed the day sending fabric through the machine.
Last week's photo of my local Joann fabric store. How sad
I am linking:
Your twirl blocks are wonderful! And, yes, it's great to have a just-plain-piecing project. I went to one Joann's about three weeks ago. Nothing that was left was anything that I needed.
ReplyDeleteMy suggestion for the scrappy twirl quilt is to applique the diamond sides to a border fabric. The other two sides can be machine stitched. It takes time but it will be easier than trying to sew half diamonds. The Holy Toledo blocks look great, are the fabrics from shirts?
ReplyDeleteThe Scrappy Swirl quilt will be a winner for sure!! Awesome progress on it. Those empty shelves are very sad.
ReplyDeleteYour scrappy twirl quilt is really cool. The JoAnn's picture is really sad. I was going to say maybe a new retailer will jump in to take over that gap, but probably not till the tariff wars are over.
ReplyDeleteMy local JoAnn store has a couple of days left. Just a few little bolts of cotton were left. I told myself that I won't go again, then I remembered there was one bolt with a lot of fabric left on it. Thinking I could use it for a backing, I might just venture out today to see if it's still there.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to see your hexagon stars together. It is amazing with the contrast of Kaffe and black and white fabric. Yes, we will all miss JoAnn's.
ReplyDeleteI really like the design of your twirl blocks. You made me laugh with your comment "a goal without a plan is a wish"...so true.
ReplyDeleteYour Scrappy Twirl quilt is sure pretty. Me, I'd trim that bottom border to make it a flat edge and call it a day. Can't wait to see what you decide! Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.
