move forward

Our Granddaughter spent the weekend with us. I love having them alone, especially around their birthdays. We get to spoil, and they are so different out on their own. We went to a Japanese steakhouse for lunch. She loved the show but not so much the food.

Every year our city has a we care tree collection. Individuals or companies creat and decorate a Christmas tree and then they are auctioned to the highest bidder and all money is donated to charity. We each picked our favorite tree.

She is great at digging out every toy we have stuffed someplace to play with, and enjoys not having to share with her brothers and sister.

And, we watched hallmark Christmas movies until way past bedtime. so fun.
My Sue friend shared her Christmas quilt with us at small group. I loved her colors and quilting.

I made the final decision on the rug hooking frame. What we had was not going to work for what I want. And I don't think it is important enough to purchase a new one at this time. Case closed for now. All that mess is gone.

I decided to make another block for En Provence. I cut, I sewed, it is together. Now I will web the top and continue as planned.

It was great to get it all out of my head and the comments were very helpful -thanks

indecision

I have hit too many "wait and sees" and it has affected my mojo. I just haven't been able to decide yet on a few projects. I seem to be in a thinking mood and not a doing mood. I have been pondering next year's quilting goals and just not sure what I want to see accomplished.

I have almost finished my owl rug hooking, but I want it bigger. So the fight in my head begins. Finish it the way the pattern requires or invent something else. More work, more indecision. sigh...

As I was webbing En provence, I realized I was one block short. I think I know what happened. I quickly glanced at the note I had made which said 15 inch block make 16. And I made 15. sigh...
There are 25 blocks in each block. And I can't find the leftover fabric. So do I make the quilt 3 x 5  or make another block from scratch. wait and see ...sigh...

I want to pare down Christmas, and I want a smaller 2 old folk size tree. So I am hoping to choose and get rid of the other old and orphaned trees I have gathered over the years. The one I like the best is just too short. And the lights are dead. Do I move on to making this one work ( adding lights), maybe putting it on a stool, and use what I already own too many or just get what I want . wait and see...sigh...

I am trying to make do a quilt frame for a rug hooking floor frame. Every step forward there is a step backward. Do I just get a new properly designated rug hooking frame or keep ruminating for a solution to using what i already have to use. sigh....

I know eventually the right solutions will come to me, and I will move forward, I am not liking the "wait and see" time right now.

fall

I really have enjoyed filling in the pumpkin for my owl rug.. I have been hooking with him in the evenings... in the dark.... and cold... Poof! overnight it seems the days have become shorter and the temperatures are really cold. Really, one day I wore sandals, and the next day, I wore gloves.

Look at this vintage beauty in the wild. It is an old treadle that has been electrified. I saw him at our local goodwill for $50.00. I did not buy him.
ooooo and a trip to the apple orchard was a huge success. Beautiful apples. cidar, and this sweet treat. I hope I never outgrow these.
I have decided to approach the quiltville mystery differently this year. I will make it, but, not until after the reveal. I don't like the mess, and having the stack of fabric out for a few months, clogging the cutting table and the project area.

I have never been disappointed in the quilts, but I really struggle with keeping it contained to a low chaos with fabric flying and parts separated over time. I think I will like cutting all of a color and then putting it away.

I really use the scrap saver system, and I will want to use strips in the right size which I already have. But I don't want to pull all of the brown strips in all of the sizes just because I won't know how many I would need in each size.
I am pretty sure I will have whatever I need when I need it, no need to even look yet. It will be hard not to get caught up in the excitement, but maybe I can make another quilt instead.

This was a smith mountain morning quilts at the last quilt show I attended, but, not mine. I have one with all the blocks made in grey and yellow.

a new goal

A new month and time for a new goal. Halloween came and went. We had no trick or treaters. sigh... I don't even have any pictures of my Grandchildren. sigh...

But the big news is published about the new mystery quilt with Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville.

My one monthly goal for November will be to piece the blocks for my EnProvence in civil war colors.Given the changing seasons, and the Thanksgiving holiday, I am hoping to get the top pieced but not quilted.
I have some un sewing to do first, since I added the wrong color of tri recs units to the block. I blogged about en provence wrong.

I have more cheddar blocks  photographed

Here is a row of my Linda friend's glitter blocks. I have used scrappy backgrounds, but she is using all the same.

calling it done for October

I feel like I have been working on these blocks forever, but it's only been a month. I started with 2 blocks finished and now I have 56. I will set them 7 x 8. I have all of the 125 string pieced sashings pieced, trimmed, and de papered. I have 50 of 72 cornerstones paper pieced. I really made a great start on this quilt. I'd like to think I will keep going, but if not I have it on the list for 2018. So I have met my goal for One monthly Goal OCtober.

Stash report OCtober 29, 2017

Boo
I found some great stuff at the quilt show's garage sale.
This was a ziplock bag of vintage 3 inch squares more or less. I love the fabrics.
just a few of these orphan blocks
and a cute tiny purse handle

a baggie of 3/4 hexagons and papers, many of the fabrics are vintage. One of the silent auction items was a huge iris container full of 1 inch hexies already basted. Oh my. It went for nearly 100.00 dollars.
 a bag of flannel scraps
and a roll of 1/4 yards of black and white fabrics... someday...

I am still working on the Marie Webster block

But I am pretty excited that I have finished sewing all the cheddar sampler blocks which was my goal. I am still piecing string blocks for the border.
