week 3 January blue rainbow scrap challenge

I spent time building rows for  flying home  for the rainbow scrap challenge this week. I am gratefull, that there are very few seams that need to match. I am sewing away from home with my trusty featherweight, Florence. I realize how much I take for granted having a real sewing room back home.

I made 4 square play blocks by finishing with a border of scrappy 2 1/2 inch squares. I really like them. They are bigger than I expected, so I will have a donation quilt, sooner than expected,

I had leftover strips from making candy chains.  and decided to make the chain blocks for candy chains.  I am glad to be that much further ahead.

While I was sewing other parts for the challenge, I made 2 inch 16 patches for square dance  as leaders and enders.

And just because, I added blue skies to my projects this month. Blue skies is an older ufo that I moved forward last year. I started ironing the hsts which are 7 1/2 inches. I have a different idea for them than the quiltville quilt that I had originally planned.

  1. So many fun projects. The play blocks really caught my eye. I can imaging piecing them together with settings and corner stones. Could make for some fun optics.

  3. I really love the layout you are using for the Flying Home blocks. I have a few of those blocks in the orphan bin and may have to give that layout a try.

  10. I'm a "scrappy" kind of gal. I'm working with 2 1/2 inch squares.
