stash report July 6, 2025

I have been digging in a box of fat quarters. These were the brown ones. Brown is a puzzle for me. I personally like brown, but, there are very few brown quilts or fabric in our modern quilting world. Still, it is a classic color, rather than trendy. what do you think?

I have created a new friendship swap for my rug hooking group. It is a swap rug. Everyone wanted houses this time. I didn't take a picture before the swap of just the pattern. It has two rows of houses, and trees, too. We each do a house on our own rug, and then, we pass it around for everyone to hook a house on our rug, When we are done, we will have a rug with our friends hooking on it. I have made 2 or 3 others and they are such a treasure.

I hooked this rug on Rose's rug. In the corner is her pink house.

  1. I don’t use much brown these days…I did make a potato chip quilt for my cousin last year. She requested teal and brown for her colours. https://thecozyquilter.blogspot.com/2024/11/another-secret-project-reveal-and.html
The link should take you to the post about that quilt.
I like your pass around hooked house project!

  2. What a fun idea for a round robin! That blue house is really cute. Brown is color you don't see very much in quilts. I have a pink and brown quilt top that turned out beautifully. I'm playing with the idea of a brown and teal quilt for this year's Meadow Mist Designs mystery.

  3. I am not a big fan of brown but it does make other colours pop so it has its place.

  4. I like those brown fabrics. I always associate brown with fall, but my son's old room is brown with navy, beige and red which is a great combination. I like the house that you hooked.

  5. One of the American Quilt Study Group research papers (published in the annual journal Uncoverings) was about modern quilters and their preferences. The researcher's conclusion that they like everything EXCEPT brown. LOL. I don't mind it at all, and my stash has plenty to show for it.

  6. I use brown in landscape quilts and some fall patterns. There are some stunning brown/teal and brown/mint green quilts out there. I use the lighter browns as neutrals.
